Hi how are you today? I am well. I have next week off work so am just relaxing. How are you? Last week was busy for me and I finished internship at church which was great. I learned a lot and am looking forward to what God has next for me.
This week I want to look at the word today. Too often we find ourselves in today wishing it was a different future day or a different past day. We don’t take the time to live in and treasure the happenings of today. The only time we can tend to do it is on our birthday. We celebrate that day.
Starting today let’s celebrate every day. Why? Because God created each day just for us. If God didn’t create today, time would cease to exist. Just think about that for a minute. Amazing isn’t it!
Lamentations 3: 22-23 in the Message Bible states:
22 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
23 They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness!
These verses tell me that Gods merciful love is new every morning. This means that when I wake up today, God has new merciful love for me for today. This love does not rely on yesterday, whether I have been good or bad and it doesn’t even rely on that today, as it is there for me before I have done anything.
God loves me and has provided mercy and love for today. Let that truth sink into our spirits. No longer do we have to wake up being scared of God because of what we have done but we wake up with a heart of gratefulness because of who God is.
Another verse regarding today is in Joshua 24. Joshua is nearing the end of his life. He wants the Israelites to continue with God so he makes this statement in verse 15 in the Message Bible:
“If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you’d rather serve – and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshiped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you’re now living. As for me and my family, we’ll worship God.”
Joshua was asking the Israelites to choose who they would serve today. I think it is a good question to ask ourselves everyday. Karen- choose who you will serve today. Is it me- your creator, redeemer, saviour, lord, healer or is it your self or some other god made of materials? We need to honestly answer this question each morning as it will keep us thinking and being in a relationship with God Almighty.
Today also might present opportunities for us to step into our calling in a moment. There might be a situation that occurs just for today. Sometimes though it can be what we have chosen to do in a multitude of todays. One person in the Bible that needed to act quickly was Esther. She only had a couple of todays to make a decision to save her people. In Esther 4: 14, Mordecai makes this statement to her:
“If you persist in staying silent at a time like this, help and deliverance will arrive for the Jews from someplace else; but you and your family will be wiped out. Who knows? Maybe you were made queen for just such a time as this.”
We quote this scripture a lot but it can apply to each of us. Karen- maybe you were made a blogger and writer for such a time as this. If I am not obedient, each day, operating in my calling- does today even matter? The answer is yes – today matters.
So this week, remember today is important because Gods merciful love is new every morning, our choices about who or what to serve are new every morning and you never know today may be the day when you can confidently say – I was made a daughter/ son of King Jesus for such a time as this.
Have a blessed week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you
Karen
