Hi how are you all today? I am well and nearly back on track with my blog postings. Some of the older ones, you can listen to on Spotify. I had a very tiring week so I hope this one is better. How was your week?
This week I want to blog on eternal perspective. I think I have blogged on this before but really feel that another reminder is necessary. With all the wars, upheavals, earthquakes, floods, fires etc it can be easy to be alarmed and start to fear. But that is only when we have a here and now perspective instead of an eternal perspective.
Let me show you what I mean. In Matthew 24 starting at verse 3, the disciples were also concerned and asked Jesus what would happen at the end of the world age as we currently know it.
The first thing Jesus said to them in verse 4 in the NKJV is:
4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.
The first sign will be that we will live in a deceptive world. What does deceive mean?
In the Oxford dictionary, it means: deliberately cause someone to believe something that is not true, especially for personal gain.
Satan is trying to deceive you and I into believing that all is doom and gloom because that is what we see in the natural around us every day. But Jesus doesn’t want us to be deceived. He wants us to live in this world, not being alarmed by those things happening around us, but having an eternal perspective. All that we will take into eternity is how much we love God and believe in Him and how much we love others by bringing them into Gods Kingdom. Nothing else will matter.
I really like what Jesus says further down in that chapter. In verse 12 and 13 it states:
12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
All of the things Jesus listed between verse 5 and 12 is because lawlessness abounds. It is because Satan has authority in the world and he only does evil not good. But look what can happen when lawlessness abounds- love grows cold. Our hearts are hardened to the things going on around us and we no longer see God as a God of love but why doesn’t He fix this and we no longer love people- we see them as problems and threats.
So how do we fix this in us? We need to get back to having an eternal perspective.
Hebrews 10: 22-25 in the Message Bible helps us with this. It states:
22-25 So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
So how do we keep an eternal perspective?
- Hold on to the promises in Gods Word. Read your Bible and be encouraged by the fact that all Gods previous promises have come to pass and so all the ones that haven’t yet, will.
- Love and serve others. This will get our minds off the happenings in the world and onto loving others.
- Keep going to church. Church is where we get encouraged that there are others who believe in Jesus and are holding on to His promises. In church we worship together and are taught how to live better in our day to day.
- Jesus is coming back. Never doubt or lose sight of that promise.
So this week, let’s shift our mindset to an eternal perspective and be about our Fathers business- loving Him and loving others. Make sure you encourage others with this also this week.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
