Motherhood

May 10, 2026

Hi how are you all today? I am well. Today is Mother’s day in my country and church was great today. I didn’t see my children as one lives four hours away and I saw the other one yesterday. How was your day?

This week I want to talk about motherhood. On Mother’s Day a lot of people honour their mums through visiting, sending flowers or even having a good conversation on the phone. Social media can be full of happy moments associated with this day. I don’t want to take anything away from that in this blog but I do want to look at a different side of motherhood- one we, as Christians neglect.

That side is those woman where the below is part of their story:

  1. They lost a child through miscarriage, stillborn or childhood illness.
  2. They aborted their baby.
  3. They are still single and want a husband and family but it hasn’t happened for them yet.
  4. They adopted their child out or their child was fostered.
  5. There are strains in the family and they don’t speak to their children or vice versa.
  6. They didn’t want children and now they have regrets.
  7. They couldn’t have children.

These are just some of the painful scenarios that Mother’s Day can bring up. Some mothers may choose not to attend church that day because of this.

I remember my own painful situation happened seven years ago. One of my sons was in rehab after a suicide attempt and the other’s marriage broke down all at the same time near Mother’s Day. My Mother’s Day was very painful that year and sometimes still is.

So what does God say to us on this day.

The Proverbs 31 woman can oftentimes seem like a standard that is hard to live up to and it would be, except for the last couple of verses. These verses come from the end of Proverbs 31 and in the Message Bible it states:

Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
Give her everything she deserves!
    Adorn her life with praises!

Notice this verse says woman, not mother. The way that God redeems all of us ladies is through relationship with Him. It states that the woman to be admired and praised is the one that fears God.

My question to myself is- am I living my life in awe and wonder of God or am I living in the regrets of the past? God can redeem and restore us from all our losses. He redeems us from the choices we make and the choices others make that affect us.

One woman in the Bible that God redeemed is Leah. Leah was the unloved wife of Jacob. But whose line did Jesus come through? It was one of her sons Judah. Who did Jacob choose to be buried with and where did he bury Leah? In the burial site of Abraham and Saran and Isaac and Rebecca- the family burial site. God redeemed Leah and He can restore and redeem us too.

I want to leave us with Isaiah 61:3-4 in the New King James Version. Just sit with these verses in prayer and let God restore and redeem. You are a mighty woman of God but God wants us to move forward in victory from this day on- no more regrets- just redemption and restoration. He loves you and I deeply and wants us to live that abundant life in Him, fearing Him and knowing that only He can heal those deep, dark hidden places.

To comfort all who mourn,
To [b]console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations

Have an amazing week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
