Hi how are you? It is Father’s Day in my country today so for all the dads out there in whatever capacity happy Father’s Day.
My week was a little chaotic as my son’s puppy passed away. It has been so traumatic for him but I know he will get through it and come out stronger knowing that love is so real but that it can sometimes hurt.
In this blog I want us to look at God as our father. Sometimes we think of God and compare Him to how are father was on earth.
If we had an absent father, we will wonder when God will leave us.
If we had a non-caring father, we will wonder if God really cares for us.
If we had a strict father, we will wonder when God will rebuke us strongly.
If we had a great father, we will know how much God loves us
I am sure there are other examples.
But what if God is really like none of those things we wondered about? What if God was all loving, would never leave us and gently corrected us without a harsh rebuke? He is all that and more. How do we know that? We connect with God through reading our Bible and prayer. It is in those two places that we get a revelation.
In Romans 12: 1-2 in the Message Bible in the latter part, it states:
Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Culture tells us what God is like but we need to put culture aside and find out for ourselves.
In Deuteronomy 31, Moses is speaking to the Israelites for the last time. A last time speech is always very important. He was telling the Israelites what they would do in the future and then advised them to read out and thus remember his words every seven years.
Then God gave Moses a song to sing and teach the Israelites so the song can be a witness to them and a warning of what will happen if they forget God.
Deuteronomy 32 is the song and in verse 6 is the first mention of God as Father in the Bible. In the message Bible, it states:
Don’t you realize it is God you are treating like this?
This is crazy; don’t you have any sense of reverence?
Isn’t this your father who created you,
who made you and gave you a place on Earth?
So first mention of any concept in the Bible is important. So what does this verse reveal about God?
It reveals that God created us, made us and positioned us on earth.
This means that none of us are here by accident. It is God ordained that we are alive at this time, for a purpose.
If I create something; it means I really want it. God created and made you because He really wants you. In the natural you might have been like I was; born to a single woman, rejected by her and adopted out. Maybe your story is different.
Notice this verse does not talk about your earthly parents. Because even though your story may have been unwanted or abandoned, it was never by God- your creator, your maker and the One who positioned you.
So today is a good day to say Happy Father’s Day to God. For He is our loving Heavenly Father who really wanted us.
