Hi how are you all today? I am well and writing this from the airport where we have been holidaying in Fiji. It was a God timed and God ordained holiday and I am so grateful to God for it. Have you ever felt you needed a holiday just to rest and recuperate?
As I was on this holiday, the Lord told me that it was time to recalibrate. I had a fairly good idea what this meant. Let’s look at the dictionary meaning first.
Recalibrate in the Oxford dictionary means to do something again or differently.
What I needed to recalibrate was my life. What do I mean by this? God had me write down all my roles. For example daughter of God, wife, mother, blogger, worker etc.
Then He had me look at each one and determine how for each one I was intentionally using my time for this role. He then had me colour code those roles.
The seven categories of most of our lives are:
- Child of God
- Spouse- husband/ wife
- Parent and/ or step parent
- Worker/ manager
- Ministry
- Other family
- Friends
When I colour coded my list, it was interesting that almost half of my roles are ministry but my time is mainly spent at work. Work hours are generally non-negotiable if we are being paid or running a business.
This is how far I am through the process. Just waiting on God to reveal the next steps, if necessary.
So is recalibrating my life spoken about in the Bible?
Proverbs 27 verses 23-27 in the Message Bible states:
27 Know your sheep by name;
carefully attend to your flocks;
(Don’t take them for granted;
possessions don’t last forever, you know.)
And then, when the crops are in
and the harvest is stored in the barns,
You can knit sweaters from lambs’ wool,
and sell your goats for a profit;
There will be plenty of milk and meat
to last your family through the winter.
Most of us are not farmers and therefore don’t have sheep but there are things we are responsible for, including our time.
Basically in recalibrating my life or roles, I now know my sheep. The next part of those verses advise me to carefully attend to them. I have to believe that God gave me those roles so it is up to me to carefully tend them. Is there a role that is being neglected? If yes, then I need to tend to that role by spending less time on one of the others or cutting a role out.
So once I know my roles and have tended them, then I can expect a harvest from those roles. This harvest may be financial, it may be rich and rewarding relationships or even fruit for the kingdom of God. Sometimes, we won’t see the fruit until heaven.
But what happens if God has called me to a role and I neglect it. Jesus taught about this in the parable of the talents. We are only going to focus on the servant with the one talent. The story is found in Matthew25: 14 to 30 and the version we are reading is the Message Bible.
Our servant was given one talent or in this version $1000. So what did he do with it? He didn’t spend it or invest it, but he hid it. I don’t know about you but I could do a lot with that money.
It tells us that the master of these servants took a long absence. Jesus also gave us gifts and is taking a long absence.
But there came a time of reckoning. This is not talking about our salvation necessarily although that is a gift we must not hide either. How do I know this? Each servant was given a different amount. There is no different amounts of salvation, it is the same for all. It is talking about the gifts, roles or callings that Jesus has given us.
I am not going to put the verses here but I am going to tell you what happened.
The master was furious with him, took the money off him and gave it to someone else.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want my gifts removed from me and given to another. I want to be Gods first choice for the gifts He has for me.
This week maybe it is time to recalibrate your life and ensure your roles lines up with what God has given you.
It is worth it.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
