The formula for trust

April 16, 2023

Hi how are you all today? I am well and have had a great weekend full of sightseeing from the mountains to the beach yesterday. Today was church which was great. I love going to church to worship God corporately, hear a message and then catch up with people. Sometimes we catch up as friends and other times ministry happens.

This week I want to pull apart the formula for trust. My formula is believing without seeing = trust. This sounds a bit like the definition of faith in Hebrews 11:1. Faith and trust are similar except faith is more of a holding on no master what happens and trust is more fleeting. Sometimes we trust and other times it gets hard so we don’t. But I want to look at how we can get our trust level up so our faith does not waver either.

The first step is believing. Believing in the Oxford Dictionary means to feel certain that something is true or that somebody is telling you the truth. Truth is mixed up in believing. Jesus said in the book of John that we will know the truth and that truth will set us free.

First we have to know that something is true. Sometimes this is both in our head and in our heart. But once we know it, then we believe it because we are certain that thing is true.

The second element of our formula is without seeing. Without in the Oxford Dictionary means in the absence of and seeing in the same dictionary means able to see well. So the meaning of without seeing is not necessarily blind but the absence of being able to see well.

To trust means we know it’s there because we believe it but with this definition we can take it a step further. Trust means knowing that something is true but not being able to see it clearly yet.

The story in the Bible that parallels this is Jesus’ healing of the woman with the issue of blood in the gospel of Mark 5 verses 25 to 34. She had been in this condition for 12 years. She had sought healing from all kinds of doctors and health experts but none could help her. Until one day she heard about Jesus (verse 27).

She kept hearing stories of Jesus. This man could heal the sick and perform miracles in people’s lives in all sorts of ways. She thought maybe He can do it for me. This started her believing journey without seeing. How do we know this?

When Jesus came to her town, she heard about it and started declaring: “if I touch the hem of His robe, I will be healed”. Until one day that confession drove her out of her home to seek Jesus. This was in spite of the fact that she was an unclean woman and could be stoned.

The crowd was thick but she inched her way through probably on her hands and knees until the hem came close. She then reached out and touched it and was instantly healed. Her healing didn’t start then, it started when she believed without seeing. When she trusted enough that her faith was activated to action.

This is the same for us. We have to believe without seeing in relation to the Word of God. Once this happens, our faith is activated and our miracle is on its way.

This week what are you believing God for? Start the process with believing but don’t stop there; go all the way. Your miracle is just around the corner.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
