Hi how are you today? I am well. The weekend just gone, I launched my second book “From the prison to the palace” at church which was great. I had a lot of book sales which is so good. My church really supports me and I am so grateful. How was your weekend?
In this blog I want to look at from this day forward. What does that even mean? I believe it means the past is the past and the only thing we can change is from this point forward.
Philippians 3: 12 to 14 in the Message Bible says it well:
12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back
Paul is saying that even he doesn’t have it all together but he is well on his way. The only way he is walking, is forward and we should do the same.
Read on further in the verse- where are Paul’s eyes? They are on the goal. Goals are always forward not backwards. Even in a game of ball, the goal for your team is generally in front of you. It could be a long way off or a short distance but it is still ahead.
Paul then goes on to say he is running towards the goal and not looking back. Nothing is ever achieved by looking back. The only things the past helps us in are showing us the amazing steps we have taken already and encouraging us that if we and God can do it then, we can certainly do it now.
One person in the Bible whose life was changed because they looked forward was Ruth. In Roth 1, her mother in law Naomi had decided to return to Bethlehem. Her two daughters in law decided to go with her. But they came to a cross road. This can happen in our life too. We come to a cross road and have to make a decision. That could include:
- Will I give my life to Jesus or return where it’s comfortable to the world?
- Will I go to college/ university to pursue my passion or is the money I am earning now going to hold me back?
- Will I get back with the person who broke my heart because I know them or will I stay single to wait for the right person from God?
- Will I stay in my comfortable surroundings or step out into what I believe God has called me too?
- Can I do what God wants me to do on my own or do I need the support of others?
These are all hard questions and scenarios but it is how we answer the call from one thing or the other that could affect our future.
Ruth’s sister in law chose the comfort of familiarity and culture and went back and we never hear about her again.
Ruth chose the hard road but the worthwhile road of pursuing God, learning a new culture, language and way of life. That one decision set her on the path of Gods will for her. She is in the lineage of Jesus and was King Davids great grandma. We are still telling her story today and finding both encouragement and courage because of her actions.
This week think about how God wants to move you forward. Are you resisting or a little bit scared? It is okay to do it scared, that won’t last as God is with you.
I encourage you all today to move forward into the amazing future God has for you.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended for you.
