Hi how are you all today? I am well. The weather in my country has cooled especially at night. This makes sleeping easier which is great. How was your week?
This week I want to explore the word “wonder”. I think as adults we have lost the feeling of wonder in our lives. As part of our reimagining journey this year, I want to bring wonder back into our lives.
What exactly is wonder? Wonder in the Oxford dictionary means a feeling of amazement and admiration, caused by something beautiful, remarkable, or unfamiliar. Can you see why this word is not part of our everyday? It is for children but as adults, we lose it in the busyness and ordinary days of our lives.
Wonder is generally found in creation or even miracles from God. King David knew about the power of wonder as wonder causes us to think on the magnificence and greatness of God. One of my favourite psalms is Psalm 19 and verses 1 to 6 are full of wonder. In the NKJ Bible, it reads:
19 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament[a] shows [b]His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their [c]line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has set a [d]tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
6 Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat
Can’t you just see the wonder in this psalm? We can go outside and experience the wonder and majesty of creation.
We only need to look at the stars to see the wonder of God. Those twinkling lights that are so far away and make us feel small in this great universe we live in.
The trees and the landscape also speak about the wonder of God. Have you ever thought about this? Every leaf is different and every snowflake is different. God is a master creator. Have you ever looked at the patterns on a butterfly and seen the intricate patterns only God could create.
My husband and I have been to many countries. We have seen the dessert of Dubai, the snow capped mountains in Alaska, the palm trees in Fiji, the tall trees in Australia, the different colours of the ocean and the vast fields and forests.
Sometimes I think we are too busy to even notice that God paints a different sunrise snd sunset every day. No two are ever the same not today, not in the past and definitely not in the future.
It is time to get the gift of wonder back in our lives to remind us of the bigness of God? If God is so big and so magnificent, then He can take care of me and you.
Let’s step outside today and remind ourselves. Let’s be like children again and get caught up in the wonder of this amazing world we live in. Let’s allow ourselves to reimagine and dream once more of what a God who created our world could do in and through our lives.
Let’s give wonder another chance in our lives. You won’t regret it.
Until next week
Bless you heaps and keep living the life God intended for you.
