Hi how are you all today? I am well but have had a pressure filled week full of situations that happened that caught me off guard. It has de- railed me a bit but I am on my way to recovery now. Have you ever had one of those weeks? How was last week for you?
One of the comments I made to God last week was that I felt like I was just hanging onto Gods garment. However, He reminded me that I am seated in heavenly places in Jesus. That is not how I felt at all.
So let’s look at the story of the woman touching Jesus’ garment to see how He lifts us the same when we feel that we are at our last resort or at our last thread of holding on.
Just be aware that it is not our salvation in Jesus that is generally at stake but our ability to keep battling through, from a place of victory, when times get tough. Jesus has already won the victory for us on the cross- we just need to walk in it. Is it easy- no it’s hard because we live in a fallen world. But we need to take heart in our trials because it is through trials we are being perfected to be more like Jesus.
Show me a Christian that has not experienced trials; there probably isn’t one.
In Luke 8: 43-48 in the Message Bible is where we find the story of a woman touching the hem of Jesus garment.
This woman had been going through this trial for twelve years. She had used up all her available resources and had been to every person she thought could help.
Isn’t this like us sometimes? We forget that God is concerned about our every need but because it starts out as a small need we think the trial will be over quickly, so we utilise our own resources and go to our own people and leave God out.
I wonder if this is because we aren’t found in prayer and in the Word of God daily or we aren’t listening to Gods voice. Just a note, sometimes we can be doing everything right and a major trial comes our way. We need to remember we live in a fallen world. We also don’t have control over others actions or their decisions.
Part of verse 43 to 45 states:
She slipped in from behind and touched the edge of Jesus’ robe. At that very moment her hemorrhaging stopped. Jesus said, “Who touched me?”
Even when we feel like all we can do is touch the hem of Jesus robe, He notices. Also, note what happened. The woman’s act of faith set up her miracle.
Notice that nobody prayed for her, she didn’t hear a sermon- she heard a word that this man could help her. She didn’t want to be noticed, she just stepped out by faith to get her miracle. She was not concentrating on the crowd but focussed intently on the hem. She didn’t even seek Gods face; she just sought her healing.
What can we learn from this? When out only focus is Jesus as we are going through a trial then we will receive. We may not receive our healing but we will receive peace and strength. I don’t know why healing doesn’t occur sometimes; that is between God and us. Maybe we need to change our lifestyle, walk in love towards someone or even walk the journey of relying on God even more.
The next verses state:
When the woman realized that she couldn’t remain hidden, she knelt trembling before him. In front of all the people, she blurted out her story—why she touched him and how at that same moment she was healed.
48 Jesus said, “Daughter, you took a risk trusting me, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed!”
Jesus knew somebody had been healed and He wasn’t going to let her slink away into the crowd. Why? Because healing was not all she needed- she needed restoration of all the years that she lost.
Her posture went from crawling in the dirt to touch His garment, to kneeling before Him and quite possibly standing before Him. Jesus doesn’t want us wallowing on the ground when we should be standing in His presence or kneeling.
The posture of our heart matters. If you are still, like me, feeling like we are crawling to hold onto the hem of His robe, it is time to move to kneeling in prayer and then standing in worship.
Trials may be difficult but we will get through them if we change our posture and trust in God wholeheartedly. He hasn’t let us down in the past and He’s not about to now.
Stand up on the inside, put on your armour; you are a daughter or son of the King.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
