Hi how are you today. I am well and can’t believe we are half way through January. In my country it has been hot and humid. We have had cyclones, floods and bushfires. It is all part of summer. How is it where you live?
This week I want to keep on our 2026 theme of consistency. We will be looking at it from a day by day perspective.
Our verse is Romans 12: 1 to 2 and in the Message Bible it states:
12 1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Let’s look at these verses bit by bit.
The first sentence is here’s what I want you to do. Have you ever prayed- God please tell me or show me what to do. In these verses, it is getting very practical.
There comes a time in our Christian walk that we must start living daily our faith walk- not just speaking but doing. Not just showing up once a week at church but doing the walk each and every day.
So how do you do that? Glad you asked.
God helping us- if God is not involved in our everyday, we are doing life in our own strength and that is always harder.
Then the verse says that taking our everyday ordinary life, give it to God as an offering. When we tithe, we are telling God we trust Him with our money but are we trusting God with and in our everyday.
Are we trusting daily that God is with us, will protect us, will give us wisdom and will help us in our speech and decision making. This is not a once off but a consistent daily walk with God.
Sometimes I go through my day forgetting God is there but when I remember, oh, my day goes so much better. I can accomplish more and be at peace.
I really like the next sentence in the verses- embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Do you embrace what God does for you or do you wish you were self- sufficient? Does it sometimes feel like God is asking of us too much? Sometimes yes, but as a parent sees potential and encourages a child, so does God do for us. If we walk in what God is doing in our lives, that means we trust that He knows best.
The next bit of the verses challenge us to think about whether our everyday lives are conforming to the present day culture or the Word of God. Sometimes the popular things are not godly, in fact, most times they aren’t.
Culture says live for yourself. God says love Me and love others.
Culture says if you disagree with me, you hate me. God says obey My Word and love everyone regardless of their beliefs.
Culture says happy holidays. God says merry Christmas.
These are just a few examples. Gods Word is timeless and counter cultural because the truths in it are consistent from generation to generation.
The last part of those verses are key to why God wants us to live consistently according to the Word of God. It states:
God brings the best out of you, develops well formed maturity in you.
God only wants what is best for us. He is not trying to hold anything back from us that’s good, only bad things. He wants us as mature sons and daughters of God. This is so we can impact the world with our love for God and love others.
It is time to be consistent in our everyday. You can do it.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended for you.
Karen
