A phrase to lean on

February 7, 2023

Hi how are you all today? I am a few days late posting this. Sorry! Last week was my last week relieving as a manager in my workplace. It was a great experience and I loved meeting new people. Have you ever relieved in a higher role? What was it like for you?

That leads me into the message for this blog. In Genesis 18:14, we read the words: “is anything too hard for the Lord”. This to me is a phrase and a promise to lean on. But all too often I forget when hard things come up.

Let’s think about a scenario. There is some sort of impossible mountain thing that has appeared in your life. That thing could be related to finances, sickness, fear, death, relationships, children, work etc. Whatever this thing is, it seems mountainess and impossible to even scale.

So what do we do? The first thing most of us do is try to solve it ourselves. We take medicine (which is good), we get a second job to pay the bills, we wear ourselves out making the relationship work, we blame others and sometimes we blame God and cut Him off.

So the story where the verse is from is when God told Abraham, Sarah would have a son. How did they react? Abraham didn’t say anything but Sarah laughed. You see that was the first time she heard herself that she was going to have a baby.

The story started about 25 years before. God had made a covenant with Abraham regarding his ancestors. Then God had taken Abraham outside and showed him the stars and the sand as a symbol of how many ancestors he would have.

Then God changed his name from Abram to Abraham which means father of many nations. Abraham had the vision of God’s promise on the inside of him, whereas Sarah didn’t. God may have changed her name from Sarai to Sarah which meant mother but there was no faith involved.

In Romans 4:17-22, the Bible states that Abraham believed although it was contrary to what he was seeing and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Abraham’s belief in the promise of God lead to him having right standing with God. In Hebrews 11:6, it states that it is impossible to please God without faith.

Why? Because faith allows us to believe in a God we can’t physically see and know that He is good and is good to us. This is what salvation does. It is a believing and confessing that Jesus is the Son of God and did what the Bible said.

So, is anything too hard for God? Not when we stand on His promises and have faith that He is a good God. Sarah received her promise because of the faith of Abraham. But this is not how God wants us to walk. We must develop our own faith and belief that God can do the impossible in our lives.

So this week let the phrase – is anything too hard for God resonate around you and within you, until you answer that question with a resounding no.

Then you will truly know what it looks like to walk by faith and trust God.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
