Hi how are you all today? I am writing this on Easter Monday as my weekend was full with birthday, family and some unexpected events.
I am grateful for the Easter weekend as it causes me to reflect in stages and not all at once. By this I mean we take communion at church every month and our focus is on the whole of what happened from the garden to the cross to the grave to the resurrection. However, Easter forces us to consider the impacts and lessons from each stage.
In this blog I want to focus on the day that we don’t think too much about. It is the Saturday- the middle day between cross and resurrection. I believe that this is the day we sit the longest in our Christian walk and we struggle with it.
On the Friday, we remember Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. But that is not all the cross represents. It represents the start of the promise of God where He said He would send us a Saviour. Someone who would mend the bridge between God and humanity. When Jesus cried out “it is finished”, He fulfilled that part of the plan. We were reconciled to God- the promise was set.
That is what happens to us. We have a situation and we go to the Bible and find a promise to stand on. But if that’s all we did, nothing would happen.
Then comes Saturday. We have our promise and we just wait. We water it by speaking faith words. Our position is found in Ephesians 6: 13 to 18 and in the Message Bible it states:
13-18 Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
Let’s just meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is where I am and maybe you are too. The battle has been hard, the fight long and we wonder how we can keep going. The only thing that is holding us is our promise from God, our trust in God and the armour we are standing in. The battle is fierce but it is not over until we turn around. While we are facing the enemy, we are covered- when we turn around: we become exposed. Keep standing and keep facing forward. Sunday is coming- not sure when- but it is coming.
If you are in this middle day I encourage you and me to keep going. This is when our faith is tested and our trust in God is tried. In these situations we need to remember Job. In all his hardship which is most of the chapters in the book of Job, he held fast to God. His middle seemed a long time although it was only about six months. Our middle can be anywhere from a few days to many many years.
But God is faithful.
When Sunday came on Jesus’s time, nobody knew the impact that day would have. This is when the daily sacrifice became the eternal one. All the promises in Gods Word became our covenant with Him. No other god had ever been raised from the dead- only Jesus. This is when our story becomes alive. The Word of God is no longer dead and lifeless but alive. This is the day our promises from God turns from words to reality. This is what we are waiting for. So don’t despair and don’t give up, resurrection Sunday is coming for your promise from God too.
May this be an encouragement to you as it has been for me.
Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you
Karen
