The way we were

August 12, 2024

Hi how are you today? Last week was a great week for me as my second book was released. There is a link under the Resources page and I would encourage you to get it especially if you need emotional healing. The book will take you through the story of Joseph and how God healed him. How was your week?

This week I want to talk on the topic of the way we were. I think sometimes that we lose our awe and wonder of what God did for us especially if we have been following Him for a long time. So let’s take a journey back in this year of reimagining.

Can you remember what your life was like before Jesus? I kind of can but not really. All I remember is that I was scared, lonely and felt that no one cared. I had no identity and my life was meaningless. Did you feel the same or was it different?

Then I went to a church and knew I needed Jesus but it wasn’t until I was home that I gave my life to Him. I needed to be in a place of intimacy with Jesus- an alone time.

Since then, I know my identity is in God, that God has a great plan for me and I know that I will forever have someone I can tell my hurts too and He will heal them.

In 1 Corinthians 6:9- 11 in the Message Bible, it tells us what God did for us. It states:

9-11 Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom. A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.

These verses give us the before and after states of our salvation.

Why is it important to remember the way we were. I believe for the following reasons:

  1. We remember what Jesus did for us. Communion takes on a whole new meaning when we remember the way we were and who we are now.
  2. We have compassion for the unsaved to know Jesus. We remember the feelings of lostness, aloneness and no purpose for our lives.
  3. We remember Who God is and have an awesome wonder of Him instead of a familiarity. Too many of us treat God as a genie instead of being in absolute awe and fear of Him.
  4. We remember that this earth is not our home and we take on more of an eternity mindset.

When we stop remembering who we once were and where we have come from, then we forget how majestic and amazing God is.

Today, take a few moments to remember who you were before God. Then take a moment and remember what Jesus did for you. He was beaten, ridiculed, marred beyond distinction, carried a cruel cross and died an horrific death. He then rose and is now seated in heaven praying for us.

Lastly, take a moment and reflect on your life now. Are we living the way God wants? Are we fulfilling His purpose for our lives? Are we in fear of God – standing in awe of Him?

Let’s start our week off with this exercise and repeat it as often as we need too. God loves you and has an amazing plan for your life.

Bless you and keep living the life God intended for you.
