Steps of faith(part 4)

April 9, 2021

Hi how are you all? I am well and have just had a great Easter. Did you? In my country the weather is supposed to be getting cooler but not this weekend, it will be more like summer.

Over the last few weeks, we have been looking at the steps of faith. We have covered getting a general promise from God, seeing with our spiritual eyes and then getting a specific promise.

Abram has been given a promise of a new land and that he would be a great nation. He saw the land with his own eyes that he would inherit from a distance. He then had the promise of a son.

Now, we are moving on to step 4. It is found in Genesis 15 starting at verse 7. God again told Abram he would inherit the land. Abram still had trouble believing so this time God made a covenant with Abram. In verse 9 and 10, Abram prepared the sacrifice and in verse 17, the glory of God walked between the pieces. In verse 18, it states that God made a covenant with Abram.

What is the significance of covenant? In days past, two tribes would make a covenant. Cuts would be made in the two leaders skin and blood would be mingled. The covenant was then everlasting. If someone else came against one of the tribes, both tribes would go out to fight. They, in essence, became one.

When God made covenant with Abram, Abram knew that the words God spoke in relation to him inheriting the land were going to come to pass.

How does this relate to us? When Jesus died on the cross, God cut covenant with us. Blood was shed and now all of the promises in the Bible that God made will come to pass for us.

How do we know this? In Luke 22:20, Jesus speaking at the Last Supper said this cup is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you. Jesus was predicting that His death on the cross would be a new covenant. It was not like the old ones where animals were sacrificed. But Jesus, the Son of God died once for all so that no new covenants would ever be made again. This was it and was final. One last chance for people to be reconciled to God- not through anything they did but what Jesus did.

In 1 Corinthians 1:20, the Bible states that all the promises of God in Jesus are yes and amen, to the glory of God through us. That means that all of the promises God made in the Bible eg by Jesus’ stripes we were healed, we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, if we tithe, the windows of heaven will be opened and blessings will flow. There are many more promises and they are all true and we can have them because of what Jesus did for us on the cross- by shedding His blood and therefore, creating a new covenant.

This is such good news. No longer do I have to strive- I just have to have faith that those promises belong to me.

This week think about what you need in your life. Find a promise in the Bible and read and say it until you truly believe it. Then not long after, you will see it come to pass. This is good news.

Have an amazing week and keep living the life Hod intended for you.

Bless you heaps

Karen
