Steps of faith (part 1)

March 8, 2021

Hi how are you all? I am doing well. Life seems to be busier now post COVID. I hope you all experience that too this year in your respective countries. For those still experiencing lockdown I pray that it will soon end.

God gave me a word for this year and it is that this is the year of receiving. Sometimes we find it hard to receive from God or we just don’t know how to. I am going to revisit what I believe I have already blogged on a few years ago.

Hebrews 11:6 states that without faith it is impossible to please God and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Do you want to be rewarded by God and receive everything He has for you? Of course you do. Then we have to increase faith in our lives. We have said before that faith comes from continually hearing the Word of God. But how does it happen?

We are going to discover the steps that God took Abraham through in order to receive his promise- a child by the name of Isaac.

The story starts in Genesis 12:1 where God sets out the promise for Abraham. The promise was good- leave your country, follow me and I will bless you. That’s exactly what God expects of us too. When we give our lives to Jesus, we leave the kingdom of darkness and are now living in the kingdom of light. We leave our sins behind and are cleansed by Jesus and become righteous (right standing with God).

God doesn’t ordinarily speak to us like He did to Abram. That’s because we have a whole book of promises that will cover just about any circumstance we find ourselves in. There are promises about children, husbands, wives, finances, healing, deliverance, wisdom, love etc. We just have to find them. That’s the reason we read the Bible- to discover what it says. The Holy Spirit will also bring Bible verses back to our remembrance when we need them. I love the verse in Psalm 119:11. It states:

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

We need to hide the Word of God in our hearts so that we will always have the answers as we hold those promises of God close.

In verse 4 of Genesis 12, it states that Abram departed. But he took Lot with him so he disobeyed the promises of God. The consequences of that choice are seen further on in the book of Genesis.

In verse 5 we read that it was the land of Canaan that Abram was meant to dwell in. But in verse 10 as there was a famine in the land, he left and went to Egypt. However not all went well for him there and he was sent away(verse 20).

In chapter 13, we find Abram back where he belonged in the land of Canaan.

To step out in faith, we need to obey the promise of God fully. Oftentimes we get into trouble when we don’t. Although the promise may not look like it’s coming to pass, due to a famine or wilderness season, we need to trust God that He’s got it and He is in control.

This is the first step of faith and we will continue with the others in the next post.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you heaps

Karen
