Hi how are you today? I am well. The post is a bit late as the year is starting to ramp up with meetings and church services. I really enjoy going to all that I need too but it certainly gets busy fast. How was last week for you?
In the midst of all that busyness, I am thinking of do we ever just stop to wonder- not wander but wonder.
Wonder in the Oxford dictionary means a feeling of amazement and admiration, caused by something beautiful, remarkable, or unfamiliar. This is one of the definitions but in essence, is what I am meaning.
Do we ever look up at the night sky and just wonder- look up in amazement at the beauty and the majesty of the night sky with the moon, stars, planets and whatever else you could see. I must confess that I don’t. But I am thinking that maybe this could bring us a bit of peace and perspective in a chaotic world.
Psalm 19 is my favourite wonder psalm. Verses 1 to 4 in the Message Bible state:
19 1-2 God’s glory is on tour in the skies,
God-craft on exhibit across the horizon.
Madame Day holds classes every morning,
Professor Night lectures each evening.
3-4 Their words aren’t heard,
their voices aren’t recorded,
But their silence fills the earth:
unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.
Can’t you just feel the wonder in these verses? The glory of God is on tour across , the sky and all we need to do to wonder at it is just stop and look.
Madame day holds classes each morning- on what? On the wonder that Gods mercies are new every morning, on the wonder that a new day gives us a fresh start, on the wonder that God gives us a new day to love Him and love others and the wonder that God is with us because His creation tells us.
Is it any wonder that we need to stop and wonder more? To get a new perspective on God and our relationship with Him. A new perspective on how small our problems really are when there is a big God to help us.
Job 37: 14 to 18 in the Message Bible teaches us how to wonder. Those verses state:
Job, are you listening? Have you noticed all this?
Stop in your tracks! Take in God’s miracle-wonders!
Do you have any idea how God does it all,
how he makes bright lightning from dark storms,
How he piles up the cumulus clouds—
all these miracle-wonders of a perfect Mind?
Why, you don’t even know how to keep cool
on a sweltering hot day,
So how could you even dream
of making a dent in that hot-tin-roof sky?
Have we taken the time to consider Gods miracle wonders. Let’s look at some of them:
- How does God make bright lightening come from dark storms? Do we even go out and stand in amazement at a storm? The thunder rumbles, the lightning flashes across the sky, the clouds grow dark and the rain falls. How does this happen?
- How does God pile up the clouds? How do they move? Why do they change shape? Have you ever wondered?
- How do you keep cool on a hot day? We can’t even do that but look at all God does in creation.
It is time that we get our wonder back. It is time that we stop in the busyness of life to just think about the wonder of God.
God doesn’t want us asking Him for things all the time like a genie. God wants to enjoy creation with us and speak to us mysteries that can only be found in the wonder of creation.
This post is speaking to me too. Some weekends I don’t even go out and stand in and enjoy the sun.
We are too busy flitting here and there to notice what God is trying to tell us through creation.
So this week let’s slow down, venture outside and find at least one thing in creation that makes you wonder. Then talk to God about it. He is waiting to hear from you and me. Let me know how you go.
Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you
Karen
