Hi how are you all today? In my country today is a public holiday but it is also my youngest son’s 33rd birthday. As a mum I have no idea where that time has gone. I still remember the day he was born. Isn’t that like mums : to remember those details. But have you ever stopped to think that God remembers the day we were born again too and it creates so much joy for Him just like for us.
This week I want to talk about consistency in relation to the verse that states occupy until He comes. I don’t know about you but my Facebook reels are full of end times- what is going to happen, the timeline and what the world will be like.
Jesus knew that hearing those things may cause some of us to be immobilised either by fear or by people having an unhealthy obsession with it. Both of those things cause us to take our eyes off Jesus and onto the event.
So to counteract that: Jesus told a parable in Luke 19. I find it interesting that the beginning of the parable starts like this. We are reading from the Message Bible.
11 While he had their attention, and because they were getting close to Jerusalem by this time and expectation was building that God’s kingdom would appear any minute, he told this story:
This is what is happening today. We have an expectation that Jesus is coming very soon and so we should. But it is what we do in the waiting that’s important.
Verses 12 to13 state:
12-13 “There was once a man descended from a royal house who needed to make a long trip back to headquarters to get authorization for his rule and then return. But first he called ten servants together, gave them each a sum of money, and instructed them, ‘Operate with this until I return.’
Jesus has made a long trip back to heaven to await for his millennial reign on the earth. But before He went he instructed the disciples what to do. This also applies to us. It applies to anyone who lives on earth before Jesus’ return.
The man gave them money in the parable and told them to operate with it until he returns.
This is what Jesus is saying to us too. Operate in what I have given you until I return.
So what are the things that Jesus has given to us to operate in.
- Love God and love others.
- The fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 in the Message Bible which states:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law
3. Work out our salvation by living according to the Word of God as found in Philippians 2:13-16 in the Message Bible which states:
Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.
14-16 Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns
The Word of God is full of how we must occupy until Jesus comes. These are just a few examples that I have listed above.
But remember in the occupying you need to be consistent. This isn’t a Sunday responsibility only but an everyday responsibility. You are the son or daughter of a King and it is time that we all consistently act like it.
Yes- Jesus is coming soon but don’t forget about how He wants you to live out your life and purpose. Be consistent in the occupation. You can do it and so can I with Gods help.
Bless you heaps and keep living the life God intended for you.
