Hi how are you today? I am well and yes I know this blog is very late. It has been such a busy time for me that when I go to write, I just want to rest. Have you ever had those seasons?
A lot has been happening in the world over the past few weeks; most of it tragic news. So how do we live in these uncertain times where the future looks a little scary and not what we want to maybe walk into.
I get it- I am retiring at the end of next year from my job but as much as I want it to go fast, I don’t want it to go too quickly. Much will happen – good and bad in that time.
So to find our answer, let’s look in the Bible and particularly in Matthew. Some of you may know where I am heading with this.
Matthew 6: 34 in the Message Bible states:
34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
This verse is our promise for today. Too often we are looking at tomorrow and thinking it may be better or even worse. But Jesus tells us to give our entire attention to today.
Why is that? Because in today, there is much to do for the kingdom of God.
Let’s take a stocktake on the things every day should contain:
- Reading the Bible- even if it is just one verse. Find a devotion book, it will help keep you on track.
- Pray- God is interested in our every day. He wants to talk to us about how we are feeling, where we are struggling and where we are feeling good. Tell Him – He is a better listener than your best friend.
- Eat- it is important for us to nourish our bodies after all they are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
- Work- God gave Adam and Eve jobs in the garden of Eden so He expects us to work too. That can at home or outside the home.
- Sleep- rest is important and God said He will give us sleep.
- Family- spend some time with family – talking in person or on the phone.
- Friends- text a friend or catch up with someone for coffee.
- Ministry- what does God require of you? What is your gifting? Try and nurture it daily.
- Rest – give yourself at least a little time every day even if it’s in the shower at night. This will be your recharge.
All of these things and maybe more in our days fill them up. That is the reason Jesus said to focus on today. If we are worrying about tomorrow, one or more of the above things will suffer.
So this week, try and live in the moment. You never know; it may make you feel more energised.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended for you.
