Hi how are you all today? Sorry this post is a few days late. I am good – it’s just that time got away from me. Time is going fast isn’t it? Are you feeling it too?
This week I want to look at how we fix our eyes on Jesus in a world that demands we focus on it. To fix our eyes on Jesus is a little bit like a puppy or kitten that you are holding a treat for. It doesn’t matter where that treat moves as you move your hands, their eyes remain firmly fixed on it. Everything else is incidental to that treat.
This is how we are to be with Jesus. The longer we fix our eyes on and our eyes remain firmly fixed to Jesus, everything around us becomes incidental. But what is He holding out to us? For each person it will be different. Maybe you need peace for anxiety, healing for a sick body, joy for a downcast soul, love and comfort in a sad situation etc. Whatever it is, continue to fix your eyes on Jesus and He will get it to you.
Why does it take a long time to get some things? Probably because we start to fix our eyes on Jesus and activate our faith to receive but other things around us distract us and we lose focus. We then have to start again or maybe we believe we don’t deserve it. None of us deserve what Jesus did for us or what He has for us. Only Gods love, mercy and grace towards us and our decision to follow Jesus allows us to be in that position to receive.
I am reminded of the story of Peter in the boat whilst Jesus was walking on the water past them. Peter must have been looking out over the sea to see Jesus. But once he did, he asked Jesus if he could come to Him. Jesus said come.
An amazing thing happened, Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water. As he walked, he had his eyes fixed on Jesus as he was going towards Him. But something happened to cause Peter to lose focus. Did he just realise what he was doing and started to doubt? Were the waves getting bigger or sounding louder? Did the astonished voices of the other disciples cut through where his eyes were fixed? I don’t know but all of a sudden, Peter looked away from Jesus and onto the water. He started to go down and cried out to Jesus. Jesus rescued him and they got back on the boat.
If Peter had of kept his eyes on Jesus, would he have kept walking until he reached the land? We will never know.
Jesus wants us to keep our eyes fixed on Him as that is the place of safety, peace and abiding in Jesus.
This week when you are tempted to look around at the world and start to get alarmed and fear, remind yourself of where your eyes should be. Get them back looking at Jesus. That is the best place to be.
Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you
Karen
