Hi how are you all today? I am well and like you, heading into a busy Christmas season. We are supposed to get rain this week which will be good as many farmers need it. Many others need their water tanks filled. We are blessed as we live in a town that has all that but it is hard for those around us.
This week I also moved into a new building for work which was great. Everything is new and shiny. Best of all it is only a ten minute walk from the train station. Winning!!
Yesterday I was complaining to God. I know – bad move. I was basically saying – God I am supposed to be an author as You called me to write but my first book is not selling quick enough. Gods response was that is not who you are- you are a daughter of the King – My princess.
Writing is what you do but it is not who you are. This had me thinking. How many times do I refer to my identity as a what instead of a who? My identity should never be in what I am doing, it should be in who I am.
Some of those whats we call ourselves are: our profession eg teacher, doctor, chemist, assistant, retail worker or our leisure activity eg swimmer, knitter, bowler, runner etc. Those are what we do but it it not who we are.
Our identity should always be in God and what we call ourself should reflect in what God calls us. We are His sons and daughters and we carry His presence with us. Let’s look at some examples:
1. Abraham was a herdsman but he is known in the Bible as the father of Faith.
2. David was a shepherd and a king but he was known as a man after Gods heart.
3. Ruth was a foreign woman who was a widow and came to live in Israel but she was known as the great grandmother of King David and for her kindness to her mother in law.
4. Esther was a queen in a foreign lands palace but she was first a Jew – one of Gods chosen people.
When we carry our identity differently , that is, we call ourselves a son or daughter of the King, then we start to act differently.
Do you think that any of the princes or princesses in the world ever have a problem with finances? No they don’t. Why? Because they go to their father, the king. When was the last time you went to God about your finances and were obedient in what He told you to do.
Do you think that how you conduct yourself would be important if you were a prince or princess in the natural? Of course it does – a lot of people are watching you. Same with us. How we conduct ourself as a son or daughter of God is very important as the world is watching us.
Do you think that it would be important how we speak if we were a natural prince or princess? Absolutely- everywhere they go when they are in public, they need to be kind, take time for people and speak nicely. As sons and daughters of God we need to do the same. In fact, the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 is how we need to aspire to conduct ourself.
So this week, let’s remember who we really are and be great ambassadors for Christ. Before you leave home everyday, straighten your crown and go out knowing that you are a son or daughter of the King.
