Hi how are you all today? I am well and enjoying winter – remember it doesn’t snow here. Last Friday I went to visit my aunt with my sister. My aunt is 95 years old and is my mums last sibling alive. Visits like that are special as after she goes, there are only two generations left on my mums side pertaining to me. I love the older generation. Do you have anyone special like that?
This week I felt God say in my spirit to blog on just do it. I don’t know about you but sometimes procrastination gets around my life. This could be due to a number of things like fear, laziness, self doubt, no motivation, not really believing God etc. But the words just do it are ringing through the spirit realm.
These words in the Bible were spoken by Mary the mother of Jesus at the scene of his first miracle. The story is found in John 2.
In essence the story starts at a wedding feast where Mary, Jesus and the disciples were attending. When the wine ran out, Mary went and told Jesus. Jesus basically said I am a guest, what do you want me to do?
Then in verse 5 Mary said to the servants just do what Jesus tells you. Now let’s stop a minute and consider this scene. Mary must have heard from God to utter those words. They must have been to weddings before this and this had never happened. So Mary was being obedient.
Jesus’ first miracle was not when He was obedient to God but his mother. This is significant. God won’t always speak to us directly but He may speak through others.
The servants were probably wide eyed about who this woman was ordering them around. She wasn’t their master. But something in her manner of speech caused them to obey.
Which one do you relate to when God says to you just do it.
- Are you like Mary who hears from God then obeys although it sounds silly
- Are you like the servants who stand there wide eyed wondering what is going on and did God really speak.
- Are we like Jesus who thought His hour had not yet come but obeyed anyway even though it seemed to be not Gods timing.
Even though they all obeyed, it started with the words just do it. What happened? The servants poured water into the water jars and when they were filled, Jesus told them to take some to the master of the feast. Once they did that the water turned to such good wine that the master was astonished.
Our obedience in just doing it will result in not only miracles but astonishment from others.
Are you ready to just obey and do it, no matter what it is? Blessing is on the other side of our obedience. Let’s practice this week and see how God will move through all of us.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended for you.
Have a great week
Karen
