Promise keeper

March 20, 2023

Hi how are you all today? I am well and started back at work in my actual workplace today. It was good to see everyone. The weather in my town has been hot and the aircon at night has been welcome. I can’t wait for the weather to cool down a bit. I know it’s only a season but sometimes seasons can last longer than we like.

This week I want to remind us of who God is. He is a promise keeper. All through the Bible there is story after story of how God kept His promises to His people. Notice the words His people. We must be Gods people to receive the promises of God.

However as we read through those stories, there is not much instant promise. Usually the person has to take the promise, believe it no matter what happens until it comes to pass. This is a process and can take from days to years.

Sometimes I think God has a jigsaw puzzle in heaven and He is just manoeuvring all the pieces until they form a perfect picture. This is when the promise is fulfilled.

The verses in the Bible I want us to consider are in 2 Chronicles6:4-6 and in the Message Bible state:

Blessed be God, the God of Israel, who spoke personally to my father David. Now he has done what he promised when he said, ‘From the day I brought my people Israel up from Egypt, I haven’t set apart one city among the tribes of Israel in which to build a temple to honor my Name, or chosen one person to be the leader. But now I have chosen both a city and a person: Jerusalem for honoring my Name and David to lead my people Israel.’

The words now God has done what He promised are significant. This is Solomon speaking at the dedication of the temple. This promise started with Abraham when God called him out of his homeland to a land that God would show him. The promise then went through Isaac, Jacob and then his sons and grandsons until finally the Israelites ended up in the Promised Land.

God then promised King David that the kingly line would continue through him and that the temple would be built by his son. This was that promise fulfilled in these verses.

If we continue reading, we see that God kept the promise to David regarding his family line right through to Jesus. This was in spite of the people’s rebellion, captivity in a foreign land and many generations. If God can keep His promise that long, then how long will God keep His promises in our life.

If God has given you a promise, keep standing in it no matter what circumstances around you say or look like or whether adversity comes your way. God is a promise keeper. Why? Because He is your loving Heavenly Father and loves you dearly.

Trust Him like a child does with a loving father. This will keep you living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
