You have a future

August 1, 2022

Hi how are you today? How was your week. Mine was great. I worked at my job but also served at our annual woman’s conference which was so much fun. One of my favourite parts is reconnecting with people I haven’t seen for ages. Have you ever been to one and what is one of your favourite parts?

This week I want to blog on the topic of you have a future. if you have been a Christian for long you will be familiar with Jeremiah 29:11. In the Message Bible, it states:

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

I like what this version says – the future you hope for. The issue is instead of looking up to Jesus for Him to anchor our hope, we look around and our hope is pulled off anchor, we start to drift and then are tossed by all the circumstances we see around us. This world we live in doesn’t offer hope, only God does.

So what is the hope that God offers and where is it found?

Hebrews 11:1-2 in the Message Bible gives the best answer. It states:

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd

Faith is that foundation that our hope for the future exists on. What is faith? It is the absolute belief that God and His Word are entirely true. Gods word is the truth that we stand on. Faith comes from believing the promises of God before we see them with our natural eyes. I love what this verse says – it makes life worth living. It gives us the hope for the future that we all desire. Hope is not a negative word – it is a positive one.

Let’s look at some examples from the Bible:

1. Abram had faith and hope that where God was leading him was better than where he came from.

2. Ruth had hope that Bethel was better than Moab so she followed her mother in law.

3. David had hope that a kings palace was better than a shepherds field.

4. Matthew had hope that a life following Jesus was better than a tax collectors booth.

5. Paul had hope that being a Christian was better than being a Pharisee.

6. We have hope that living for Jesus is better than living in the worlds system and ways.

  • Hope always leads us on a positive path.
  • Hope does not look at the news and cowers in fear.
  • Hope does not look at the statistics and wonder if it will become one.
  • Hope does not look at our current circumstances but instead looks at the Word of God.
  • Hope does not look at failures but at what success could look like.

This week I want you to remind yourself that no matter what is going on around you, you have a future. The future is not bleak if you are a Christian, but one that is full of God and His promises. If you aren’t a Christian, read the page on knowing Jesus. It is the best decision you will make. Then let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
