Hi how are you all? I am okay but have been through a crazy stressful week. We have had cyclones with wind and rain hammering our part of the country where I live. It has been very unsettling. More than once – I have told my husband I feel unsettled. How was your week?
In light of the above, I am going to blog on the well- known story that Jesus told. It is found in Matthew 7: 24 to 27 and is about obeying and speaking Gods Word. But this week I have had to use it in the sense of trusting God. Let’s look at it in the Message Bible. It states:
24-25 “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
26-27 “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
This story is about two types of believers- those that hold fast to the Word of God and trust God without doubting and those who don’t.
Both have heard the words in the Bible but it is what we do with them that counts.
The first group held onto the Word of God in the storm and the second group was flippant with the Word of God. Which one are you?
Back to the story of my week. This is what I was dealing with:
- A stressful project at work
- A tropical cyclone that didn’t know what it was doing from last Thursday to Saturday night. Was it going to cross the coast and when? How strong would the winds be? Was I prepared? Now one thing I forgot to mention, my area of the country does not get cyclones and the last one we had was 50 years ago.
- I had to cancel my cruise holiday as because of the cyclone I couldn’t fly to the port where the ship was departing from.
With all of that happening, my sands were starting to shift. I wondered where God was and especially my trust in God. Did I have even faith and trust that God would see me through everything or was I trusting too much in me?
This can happen to all of us when our lives are shaken. It can be unsettling and a bit like which way is up. But it is in these times that we need to run to God. Why?
- He loves us, cares for us and will protect us if we trust in Him.
- He knows the plan and reason why even if we can’t see it.
- He will bless us even in the midst of turmoil.
- He will turn our situation into a story of His goodness in our lives.
If you are going through something then run to God and not away from Him. He has the wisdom and assurance that you need. He will also comfort you and provide peace in these times.
The story above in the Bible tells us storms will come but it is how we anchor ourselves in the Word of God that will determine the outcome. It is time to run to and trust in God.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
Karen
