Hi how are you all today? I am well. Easter is over for another year but the meaning of Easter should remain with us all year. Easter is the reason we are Christians and have been reconciled back to God. I am so grateful for that, aren’t you?
I was praying for one of my step grandsons this week who just turned 21. God gave me the verse in Luke 16:10 regarding being faithful in the small things first before we are faithful in the bigger things. I thought this was a good reminder to all of us.
How often have we had a big, grand plan or project that we thought we might do, but then it never eventuated. Why? Was it because we are lazy, don’t have the skills or was it for another reason?
I believe big things don’t get fulfilled if we are not first faithful in those small things.
Have you ever thought I am going to save $100 per week for a holiday. It went great for the first two weeks and then the money was used for something else. If we want to learn to save, start small at $5 per week. In a year, you will have $260 and in ten years, you will have $2600. That doesn’t seem much but somewhere in that timeframe, you will have increased your saving because you were disciplined and became faithful in the small.
Let’s look at some stories in the Bible where people started out small and were faithful. They then went on to bigger things.
The first is Joseph in Genesis. After he was sold to the slave traders, he was faithful in his masters house. He was so faithful that his masters house prospered and he was made second in charge. This didn’t end well and he went to prison on account of his masters wife’s lies. Did he get bitter in prison.
No, the Bible tells us that he prospered in the prison because he was faithful. Through a series of events, he then found himself second in charge in Egypt.
Joseph was faithful in the little and then God prospered him and he was still faithful in the much.
David was also faithful in the little. His job as a young man was to tend his father’s sheep. He took his job seriously as whilst he was out tending them, he also protected them. He killed a lion and a bear that was attacking the sheep.
One day he was sent to give provisions to his brothers whilst a battle was going on. David arrived there to find the Israelite army being taunted by the giant Goliath who was a Philistine.
David decided to go and fight him because he told the king that he had previously killed a lion and a bear and this Goliath was coming against Gods people. Reluctantly, they let David go out. Much to their surprise, David defeated the giant. Why? Because he had been faithful in caring and protecting the sheep, so God was with Him when He went out to protect Gods people.
David not only became a great warrior but also a great king.
Ruth is another one that was faithful in the little. She was a Moabite woman who had married an Israelite. She became widowed and lived in Moab with her mother in law, Naomi. One day, Naomi heard that God was prospering Israel again so she decided to go back. Ruth went with her and they arrived in town at the time of the harvest.
Ruth went to work in the fields so she could get enough food for her and Naomi. Because she worked hard and was faithful to her mother in law, she caught the attention of Boaz.
Through a series of events, Boaz married Ruth and a Moabite girl was grafted into the family line of Jesus.
Being faithful in the little seems like it won’t do much or become much. However, as these stories show being faithful in the little can lead you to huge rewards.
How are you going to be faithful in the small? Is there something that God has asked you to do? Is there a project that you need to scale back so you can be found faithful in the small?
Small does not mean bad, it means little. So next time you start to dream too big, just start small and before you know it, that big dream could become reality.
Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you
Karen
