Reimagining – re image

January 14, 2024

Hi how are you all today? I am well and can’t believe it is nearly half way through January . Didn’t the month just start? I am still not back doing a lot of things I currently do as the children in my country are still on holiday. So it has been quite restful and a great way to ease into the year. Have you eased in or are you back full swing?

The theme for my blog this year is reimagining. I like to think of it as re-image- ing. We need to change the image we see in our mind in every area where the image does not line up with the Bible. This can be a long process as it starts with a lot of undoing of wrong or negative thoughts.

Philippians 4: 8 to 9 in the Message Bible states:

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

These verses start off with fill your minds and meditate or think on things that are true etc. This is what we should be filling our minds with. Instead of having an image of the bad, let’s think on the good. Sometimes it’s hard but as we practice we will get better at it.

The last part of those verses is interesting. It is when we change our thinking from bad to good, then God will work everything for our good. If we can’t believe it then think on it: God can’t do it. It is going against His laws.

Imagination is a tool we use to get our faith moving. If we can’t imagine it, we probably won’t believe it. But when our imagination is turned on for good and our mind gets filled with different images, it is easy to believe and therefore receive.

So let’s look at some examples:

  • Abraham couldn’t believe for an heir until he saw the stars and then had his name changed. My question to all of us is what do we call ourselves- son or daughter of God or silly, useless, stupid, a klutz etc. We need to work on changing those bad names we call ourselves.
  • David saw himself as a leader before he was one. He didn’t hide in the wilderness and run away from Saul by himself. He founded a group of misfits later called the mighty men, trained them up and led them. They were all faithful to David.
  • Esther saw herself as an orphan girl before her uncle told her to join the multitude of girls trying to attain the status of Queen. She didn’t think she could be a concubine of the king only the queen.
  • Peter was a fisherman until Jesus changed his name to Simon which meant “rock” and became the rock on which the first church was built. Jesus is the cornerstone (sets the whole building as the foundation stone).
  • Saul’s name was changed to Paul as Saul represented one who persecuted the church whereas Paul founded the gentile church- where we fit in today.

All of the people needed to re-image themselves with Gods help so they could fulfill the call of God on their lives.

What re-imaging do you and I have to do to enable us to walk in all that God has for us this year. It is time to let yourself imagine.

Bless you heaps and keep living the life God intended for you.

Karen
