What is truth

Hi how are you all today? I am in the middle of Christmas rehearsals at the moment with production next weekend. Are you involved in any Christmas activities at your Church?

In this season and I guess in the world we are currently living in, many people are searching for truth. So what is truth? Truth in the Oxford dictionary means connected with facts rather than things that have been invented or guessed.

If you read social media or listen to the news, there are a lot of opinions around. Opinions may be truth but too often they are words or ideas that have been invented or guessed. Nobody really has the truth- their words change depending on popular opinion.

In addition, if we rely on peoples truth, people can lie. I know I have done it and probably you have too. So if people can’t be trusted to tell the truth all the time, what or who can be trusted to speak truth?

There is only one truth that is reliable – the Word of God. It has never failed and never has been found to contain a lie. Events have come to pass even though they were spoken of many years prior.

The Bible is still relevant today and contains the answers to every issue. It is to be relied upon.

Let’s look at some verses in the Bible regarding truth.

The first verse in the Bible that contains the word truth is found in Genesis 24:26- 27 in the New King James Version and states:

“Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord. And he said, “Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren.””

The first mention of truth in the Bible refers to Gods truth. God is the only one who has truth in every word spoken. The story this verse comes from is when Abraham sent his servant to get a bride for his son Isaac.

When the servant came to the land where Abraham’s family lived, God sent the servant straight to his family. Just remember there were no phones in those days and no maps. The chances of this happening was low but it was Gods truth towards Abraham that allowed the servant to be successful in the journey.

This story teaches me that Gods truth can totally be relied upon. It will be Gods truth that allows the promise to come to pass. It is Gods truth that will guide us to success. It is Gods truth that will see the legacy continue.

The last mention of the word truth in the Bible is in 3 John 12 in the NKJV which states:

12 Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself. And we also [f]bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.

This verse doesn’t seem like much but insert your name in there instead of Demetrius. Now read it.

This is what you want written about you because you want your life to be a good testimony to others and we want to live our lives on the truth of Gods Word – not my truth, not the worlds truth and certainly not others truth but the truth of the Word of God. Why- because it never changes.

This week think about what truth you are believing and if it doesn’t line up with the Word of God – it is not truth but opinion and maybe even lies.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
