Anchored to God

October 15, 2023

Hi how are you all today? I am well and have had a fairly quiet week other than work and house chores. It has been what I needed after the busyness of the last few weeks.

Most of us have probably been watching what is going on in Israel. Although I am not going to talk about that in this post, I just want to remind us Christians that Israel is still teaching us. When we allow disunity in our lives then we open the door for attack.

Let’s continue to walk in unity (doesn’t mean in complete agreement) with each other and those around us. Unity means same purpose and same way forward. In Psalm 133 it states that when there is unity, there is blessing from God.

What I felt to post this week which I have done before is to remind each of us Who we are anchored to. We live in a society that is turbulent and stormy. If we are not careful, we can be tossed around by fear, unbelief and uncertainty. But if we stay anchored to Jesus our rock, we will have peace in the midst of it.

I am reminded of the story around those two builders in Matthew 7. One was in a hurry and built his house on the sand. The other took his time and built his house on the rock. Which house stood when those storms blew? The one built on the rock. What Jesus was exampling in this story was making sure we are building our lives on the Word of God, which is Jesus. Only the Word of God nestled deep within our hearts will stand in the storm. One of the scriptures that we should all be memorising and getting deep within our hearts at this time is Psalm 91.

In the Message Bible, it states:

91 1-13 You who sit down in the High God’s presence,
    spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
    I trust in you and I’m safe!”
That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
    shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
    under them you’re perfectly safe;
    his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
    not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
    not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
    drop like flies right and left,
    no harm will even graze you.
You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
    watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God’s your refuge,
    the High God your very own home,
Evil can’t get close to you,
    harm can’t get through the door.
He ordered his angels
    to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
    their job is to keep you from falling.
You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
    and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

14-16 “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
“I’ll get you out of any trouble.
I’ll give you the best of care
if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!”

The psalm starts off with our position in God. It is not a frantic position of pacing up and down but a position of sitting and hiding. It is a place of safety and protection . Is this what you need when you listen to world events or read the news headlines. If it is, then position yourself in God.

If you do, then you can confidently believe and trust the rest of the psalm. God wants us anchored in Him and not drowning in the storm of confusion and fear.

Anchor yourself in God and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
