Hi how are you all? I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and are ready for this year. In my country, this year has started off the same as last year with lots of cases, long testing queues and uncertainty. But in the midst of it, Jesus is still with us and Psalm 91 is still the truth. Don’t fear, hide in Jesus.
The word God gave me for this year is that it is the year of release. I am not certain what it actually means for us yet. But as we walk through this year, God will reveal.
For some of us it might be a release into and for others it might be a release from. Fear may be holding us back or keeping us paralysed. God wants us all to live free.
The definition of release in the Oxford dictionary is:
- allow or enable to escape from confinement, set free
- action or process of releasing
- allow something to move, act or flow freely
It doesn’t matter which of the three we look at, by definition release means a freeing. John 8:36 tells us that if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
This means that the release or freeing action doesn’t come from my strength or your strength. We can’t do it ourself. It can only come as we surrender to Jesus and allow Him to help us. This is the same when my dog gets tangled in the lead. My dog can’t get herself out, she must surrender to my help. She knows I won’t hurt her, I only want to help her.
Same with Jesus – He doesn’t want to hurt you or cramp your style. He only wishes to help you. In John 10:10, Jesus came to give us an abundant life not a chained up life.
In the next few weeks, we will look at a few stories where people were released in different ways. Maybe one of these stories will speak to you.
Seek God and find out what this word means in your life. Let’s take this journey together this year to see what the word release means individually to each of us and corporately to the body of Christ worldwide.
I can wait to see what this year unravels in each of us. But no matter what, keep living the life God intended for you.
