Don’t judge

September 6, 2021

Hi how are you all today? Well the weather is definitely warming up in my region and spring is in the air. I really like the warmer months as I don’t really like wearing or carrying jumpers and coats. What about you? Do you prefer the warm or cooler weather?

This week I really feel to blog on the topic of don’t judge. As I read through the posts on social media , there is a lot of judging people going on. Some have reacted to others in a nasty way.

First, up front, I want to make this point clear. We can disagree about someone’s opinions but that is not judging the person themselves. Don’t judge means don’t denigrate the person. Remember the second commandment of Jesus- love others. We can’t be loving and judging someone all at the same time.

So, what does the Bible say about this topic? The first mention of the word judge in my Bible is in Genesis 16:5. This is part of the story of Abram, Sarai and Hagar. Hagar had conceived Abram’s child and now she looked down on her mistress. Sarai told Abram – the Lord judge between you and me

We see from this verse that it is God Who judges people and not people judging people. God is the only one that can see inside our hearts, know our motives and the reason we react the way we do. No one else has that depth of understanding about another person.

In Matthew 7:1, Jesus warns us about judging others. He says don’t do it or else the same measure we judge with will be applied to us. For example, if we judge someone not perfect enough, then we will be judged by God not perfect enough, unless we repent of the judgement we made.

It is dangerous to have a high standard for people. People will always disappoint us but God won’t. Judging is equal with comparing and often when we judge, we compare someone’s actions to ours in the same situation, and the other person comes up short most times.

Why do we do this? It is most often to do with self worth. We judge others and pull them below ourselves to make us feel better. But pulling down others will never make you feel better. Only being secure in the love of God can.

When we walk knowing that God loves us and has a great plan for our life, can we truly love others as God wants us too.

Did Jesus go around judging others whilst He walked on this earth? He could have as He was the only person Who had never sinned. What did Jesus do? Acts 10:38 tells us: He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil for God was with Him.

If we walk around doing the same – loving God, loving others, doing good, laying hands on the sick and talking about how good God is, then we won’t have time to judge others. We will be too busy loving them.

So this week, practice your love walk on God and others. You may be surprised by the results.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
