How to receive

January 20, 2021

Hi how are you all? I hope you are having a great week doing the normal things in your life. Those normal things sometimes can be boring but have you ever looked at your normal and counted your blessings. Cooking because you have food to eat, washing clothes because you have clothes to wear and cleaning because God has blessed you with a house. Let’s change our perspective this year and be grateful for all we have.

We are continuing to look at the meanings of receive that I listed last blog. This time I want to look at the meaning “take delivery of”. We all know it is difficult to get something if we don’t take delivery of it. If our parcel is sitting at the post office, we don’t receive it until we go to the post office and collect it. It is ours while it is sitting at the post office but it truly belongs to us when we pick it up.

This is the same way with the gifts God has given us. They are laid out for us but we have to do something to receive. We needed to go to the post office to pick up our parcel. There are a number of ways to receive listed in the Word of God but we are going to look at three. They are all found in the Old Testament but they still apply to us today.

Let’s look at Joshua first. In Joshua 1:8 it states don’t let the Word of the Lord depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night, be careful to do all that is written in it. Then God will make your way prosperous (my paraphrase). How do we receive from God? Stay in the Word of God- reading it and thinking it over. Can you receive this way- yes? I received healing from anger as I stayed in the Word. I didn’t even know it was gone until one day I realised. You can receive this way too.

The next person I want to look at is Naaman. He was a commander of the army of King Aram. His story is found in 2 Kings 5. But Naaman had leprosy. A young servant girl told him about a prophet in Israel who could heal. Naaman went to Israel and found the prophet who operated in the gifts of God. He told Naaman to go and dip 7 times in the Jordan and he would be healed and he was. This time Naaman received by going and then doing what the prophet said. Sometimes we receive from God when a Christian gives us a word and we go and wash off those things that are hindering us. Naaman received his healing not by reading the Word of God but by obeying what the man of God said. What things have you and I been told that we are holding onto. It’s time to let them go in order to receive from God.

The last story we are going to look at is the widow and the jars. The woman’s husband had died and left her with debt. She needed a financial breakthrough. The prophet told her to go and collect jars and fill them up with the tiny amount of oil she had left. The oil kept running until she needed no more. Then the prophet told her to sell the oil, pay off her debts and live on the rest. Her story is found in 2 Kings 4. She received her miracle by doing and then selling. What have you got in your house that God could multiply and use for provision. I love this story because the woman didn’t beg or receive handouts. She was allowed to keep her dignity. God wants us blessed not begging. So to receive from God listen to what He is saying then do it

Have a look and see what areas in your life you can receive from God and “ take delivery of” what God has for you. He desires that His kids are abundantly blessed,

Have an amazing week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless yiu

Karen
