Hi how was your week? Mine has been good. I am busy with work and the weather is warming up. I am still working from home as there is still a little bit of community transmission with COVID 19. But all will be good because God is still on the throne.
2020 has been an interesting year. For most of us it has been a year with a lot of lockdown and all that entails. Some of us have probably felt isolated through this time.
So I want to remind us all today what Jesus prayed for us Christians in John 17. From verse 20 to 26, Jesus prayed for one thing over us and that was unity. Unity with God and Jesus and with each other.
What is unity and why is it so important? Unity in the Oxford dictionary means the state of being united or joined as a whole. This meaning is not only a physical meaning. Unity goes far beyond physical. In the Christian sense it is a spiritual meaning.
This means that we are joined together with God and Jesus spiritually. Similarly we are joined as a body of believers spiritually. It doesn’t matter where we are physically- if you are a Christian we are united with each other spiritually. Unity goes beyond race, status of finances or position or nationality. Unity is a word that combines all Christians everywhere together.
Why is that? Jesus told us in the above verses. So the world will know God sent Jesus and that He loves us as much as He loves Jesus. Wow!!! Did you know God loves you as much as He loves Jesus.
When the world sees the church walking in unity with each other, they will see Jesus. Unity doesn’t have race riots, fighting, jealousy or even hatred. Unity is pure love.
So this week, you may be physically isolated but spiritually you are in unity with all other Christians- walking together to show the world Jesus. So let’s get going and show them unity.
