At the cross

April 4, 2018

Last weekend we celebrated Easter. Some celebrated with Easter eggs and holidays. Others, like me celebrated it at church remembering what Jesus did for us. However, this year was different for me. I was in the Easter production at church and played Mary the mother of Jesus. As I was rehearsing, I kept thinking what it would have been like for her in all the stages of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. How would she have felt and most importantly did she still believe what the angel told her?

As I was kneeling at the cross and weeping for my pretend son hanging on the cross, I felt a great sense of loss – my firstborn son was hanging up there like a criminal when He had done nothing wrong and everything right. I may not have understood but I was still his mum. How could men have been so cruel but more importantly, I need to remember it was also me he was hanging up there for.

I would have also been remembering the good times of his childhood, early teens and early days of ministry. Nobody ever walked around from town to town and did what He did.

I guess I would have remembered Jesus, my son like this:

When the angel first told me a miracle would take place

And I would have a son and look in God’s amazing face

Would I have seen the cross coming

When you were dedicated and the prophets spoke great words

Would I have seen the cross coming

When you were a boy and learning all things new

Did I see the cross coming

When you were baptised and God spoke to you from above

Did I see the cross coming

When we were at the wedding and you performed your first miracle

Did I see the cross coming

When you healed the sick and raised the dead

Did I see the cross coming

At the Passover when you said eat my body and drink my blood

Did I see the cross coming

When you were arrested, whipped and beaten

Did I see the cross coming

Only when they made you carry your cross and hang you

Then I saw the cross coming

When you rose from the dead and went to heaven

I still remembered the cross

When the Holy Spirit came

Only then did I realise the cross was for me.

The above poem which I wrote is my reflection of the cross. Easter is not just another holiday or long weekend, it is a time I especially remember the cross was for me and Jesus so miraculously and lovingly took my place.

It is only when we accept Jesus, the cross and the forgiveness of our sins, can we truly live the life God intended for us. If you don’t know Jesus, please click on the link on this website and find out how to know Him. Let me know if you did this. I would love you to join the family as together we walk living the life God intended for everyone.
