Building your faith

October 16, 2017

Have you ever decided you were going to get fit by walking everyday or going to the gym? The first day you start you can barely walk for more than three minutes without getting puffed. By the end of the week you can walk five minutes without getting puffed and by the time a month rolls around twenty minutes of walking is easy. Why? What happened? You applied pressure to your body and your muscles became stronger. This is the same principal we need to use when building our faith.

The Bible states in Romans 12:3 that God has given to each of us a measure of faith. This means we all have faith, no matter how small. Even if you think your faith is small, the Bible states in Mark 11:23 that if we have faith in God we can speak to the mountain and it will be cast into the sea. Jesus didn’t say if we had large faith, medium faith or extra large faith, it would happen. No, He says if you have faith in God – that measure of faith you have been given. That’s all you need to start with.

Why am I saying that? When we start out in our walk with God trials will come. In the beginning those trials will be small so we will have the faith to trust in God in those trials. As we mature in God, our faith must grow because to mature the trials must get bigger and not smaller.  As babies, we learnt to sit up, then roll over, then crawl, then walk and then run. As our muscles became stronger, we could do more things.

Same with faith – as our faith gets stronger we can achieve more in God. God wants to give us an abundant life but He can’t unless we are willing to have faith in Him. How does our faith get stronger? By reading the Word of God, meditating on it and putting it into practice. In my own life, I have seen my faith grow stronger.

Last year, I had severe anxiety and because of things happening in my mind, I didn’t get a revelation that it was a spiritual battle for about six weeks. It was then I dug into the Word of God and with some good teaching and scriptures playing over me at night, I have nearly overcome it. This year, I received a diagnosis of three potential cancers in my body. I had to have a number of tests but because this time, my faith was stronger, I dug straight into God and His Word and built my faith up stronger. Two weeks later, I received the result – no cancer. I could have succumbed to the original diagnosis but because I built my faith up with God’s help, I am now stronger in Him, not in me.

If my faith can be built up, so can yours. God is no respecter of persons but He only can act according to His Word. So this week, read your Bibke, start building your faith up and keep living the life God intended for you!
