The wonder of Christmas

December 2, 2018

I love this time of year. The time to catch up with family, have special food and give and receive gifts. But have you ever thought about the wonder of Christmas? Wonder in the dictionary means a feeling of amazement and admiration, caused by something beautiful, remarkable or unfamiliar. Have you ever thought of Christmas this way.

I haven’t either until now but I believe we should. In all the busyness of running around buying presents and food, attending all the functions and the various church services, we have somehow lost the wonder of Christmas.

Are we still amazed that a God in heaven would send His only son to us in the form of a baby knowing that His very creation would one day sentence Him to die? This was beautiful and remarkable and showed the love of God to us in a magnificent way.

Are we sill amazed that a virgin named Mary would be picked to be His mother and she would accept what the angel told her even though she couldn’t understand it? These events were unfamiliar to Mary and were quite remarkable. But she accepted anyway.

Are we still amazed that Jesus would be born in a stable and not in the palace He deserved? This was the remarkable plan of God for mankind.

Are we still amazed that His first visitors were shepherds and not the person in charge of the temple? Are we still amazed at God’s plan for us?

All of these events show us the wonder of Christmas. A time when we need to set aside a time from our busy lives and just remember and wonder at the reason for the busyness and joy.

I love what the Bible says about the birth of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6, it says:

“A child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of His ancestor David for all eternity.”

This was the wonder of the plan of God – the beautiful, remarkable and unfamiliar plan of God that touches all eternity. The plan touches us today and will for generations to come.

This Christmas stop and remember the wonder of the plan of God as you rush around. Have a blessed day and keep living the life God intended for you. Love Karen
