My Saviour

July 26, 2026

Hi how are you all this week? I am good and had a restful weekend. It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it is good. How was your week? It is very cold in my town now but we don’t get snow. Cold for me but maybe not for you.

This week I want to look at my saviour. Last week we looked at my redeemer and found out all the things Jesus did for us. Being saviour is much different as Jesus did everything for us not knowing if we would ever respond.

Saviour in the Merriam-Webster dictionary means one who saves from danger or destruction or one who brings salvation.

Jesus made the way for us to be reconciled to God so that makes Him Saviour. Pretend for a moment that we were swimming at the beach and we were caught in a rip. We put our hand up and the lifeguard came and rescued us. That lifeguard in that moment was our saviour. He risked his own life for ours even if we didn’t want rescue.

A saviour saves us from and redeemer redeems us into. Jesus fulfilled both roles for us.

So let’s look at a passage where Jesus was on the cross and what He cried out. By this time, He had been beaten, whipped, carried his own cross, and had His feet and hands nailed to a cross. The people that did this to Him were cruel. But look at what He said in Luke 23: 34 and in the Message Bible, it states:

34 Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Do you think this prayer was only for those cruel oppressors or was it for all mankind? I believe it was for all of us. Our sins and everyone else’s were paid for on that cross. Jesus offered forgiveness for all as our Saviour before one person had accepted it. That is love!

Jesus’ whole purpose of coming into the world- being born as a baby and growing up into adulthood was so that we could be saved. 1 Timothy 1: 15 in the Message Bible states:

15 Here’s a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.

The story in the Old Testament that depicts this best is the story of the bronze serpent in the wilderness. It is found in Numbers 21. In this story the people grew irritable and cross and spoke out against God and Moses. They were in rebellion just like we were before we were saved.

In verses 6 to 9, the story goes on:

6-7 So God sent poisonous snakes among the people; they bit them and many in Israel died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke out against God and you. Pray to God; ask him to take these snakes from us.”

Moses prayed for the people.

God said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it on a flagpole: Whoever is bitten and looks at it will live.”

So Moses made a snake of fiery copper and put it on top of a flagpole. Anyone bitten by a snake who then looked at the copper snake lived.

God sent poisonous snakes because of their rebellion. In our rebellion, Satan was the snake at work poisoning our lives, our thoughts and minds from everything good relating to God.

The people knew they had sinned so a remedy had to be found. Moses prayed then built a snake, put it on the flagpole so that when the people looked at it they were healed.

God put Jesus on a cross and if we look at it and believe, we will likewise be forgiven of our sins.

That bronze snake was a type of Jesus and saved those people from the snakes. Jesus on the cross saved us from our sins, Satan’s hold on us and so much more.

This week ponder on what Jesus did for us and if you haven’t yet made the decision, I encourage you to take the step of believing in Jesus this week.

Bless you and keep living the life God intended.

Karen
