Purpose now eternity later

October 23, 2022

Hi how are you all today? I am well. We have just had another rain event in my area but no significant flooding which was great. The ground is so saturated now. We are supposed to have high temperatures this week so will see how we go.

This week I was reading Matthew 20 when God whispered to me purpose now eternity later. Have you ever heard that saying that someone is so heavenly minded, they are no earthly good? Maybe that is what the title means a little too.

Let’s have a look at the story starting in verse 1 to 15. This is the story of the owner of the vineyard and workers that he hires throughout the day.

Let’s assume the workday was from 6am to 6pm which I believe it generally was back then especially at times of planting and harvest.

The first lot of workers were employed at 6am and their wage for the day was agreed at $1.

At 9am the next lot of workers were hired for a fair wage.

He again hired more workers at 12pm, 3pm and 5pm. Then at 6pm he called them all to receive their wage. What did he pay them? He gave them all $1.

Whether we give our lives to Jesus as a child, a teenager, a young adult, an adult or a senior, it doesn’t matter – we all receive the same wage – eternal life.

So what does it matter when we give our hearts to Jesus? The answer aside from you don’t know when you are going to leave the earth so you can’t make the decision too late is purpose.

You see, the workers who worked in the vineyard all day had purpose. They were using their giftings for the masters use and prospering the vineyard. The others were standing around all day doing nothing. They had no purpose for their lives and were probably feeling totally useless and unworthy that nobody had hired them.

Back to our story, the workers who were first hired complained over their wages saying they should have received more as they worked longer. But they agreed to $1 a day.

Isn’t this like us sometimes? We have been in Gods kingdom a long time then someone new is saved and they appear to be getting all the blessings. God does not withhold from any of us. But He does want us to mature in Him and realise that if all we received was eternal life, that would be enough.

For before we were saved, it states in Romans that the wages for our sin was death but because Jesus paid the price, our wages now are eternal life.

In this earth, we all have the privilege of choosing to partner with God to bring more people into the Kingdom through our purpose which are our giftings from God. We will be rewarded for this but not on earth but in eternity.

So this week let’s focus on our purpose and make sure we are partnering with God to bring heaven to earth. Wages come later but purpose is now.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
