Love of God

September 21, 2019

Hi how are you? I haven’t posted for a few weeks as there has been lots going on in my family over the last few months and weeks. It has been hectic and a real faith journey of trusting in God and continuing to trust in Him. It is not easy but is always worth it.

Over the last few weeks, I have been challenged over my love walk. Am I walking in the love of God? Am I believing in the love that God has for me? Most of the time when I forget how much God loves me is when I start not loving others as I should.

So how does God love me? The short answer is unconditionally. God doesn’t have bad days but if He did He would love me just the same as He did on good days. God’s love for us does not depend on the way that He is feeling but focuses more on what I need. The love of God is unselfish in every way.

In the same way, God’s love for me does not depend on my actions either. If I am angry or don’t read my Bible, God doesn’t love me any less. His love is unconditional.

So what about my love for others? In the natural our love for others depends on my mood and their actions. But if we love others with the God kind of love (agape), those things shouldn’t matter. 1 Corinthians 13 tells me how I should love others. My love for them must be patient and kind. This is not depending on whether they are patient and kind with me and to me. It depends on my love for them – the God kind of love.

Love is not jealous or proud or boastful or rude. My love for others must be of the type that considers them before me. To celebrate their accomplishments, their successes and to be happy for them when I haven’t done as well.

It does not demand its own way – it is always unselfish. It is not irritable and keeps no record of wrongs. This kind of love knows that God is in charge and He will vindicate not me. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices when the truth wins out. Love is always after the good. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. Love never gives up on people even though the circumstances are dire. Love is always there for them. That love is God.

When we think of the above, it brings a smile to our face. That is how God loves us – deeply and unconditionally. But He expects us to love others the same. That is how the world will be won to Jesus – by the God kind of love shown to them.

This week, practice loving others in some of the ways mentioned above and let me know how you go. I will do the same. Love never fails.

Bless you heaps and keep living the life God intended for you.

Karen
