I believe it is time for me to know what is inside me and it is probably time for you to know too! There is a power and a Person living on the inside of us that even the Old Testament prophets wished they had. Moses said in Numbers 11:29 that “I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit on them”. Well guess what! That is exactly what happened to the disciples after the resurrection when Jesus breathed on them and on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came to earth to dwell on the inside of mankind. It also happened to you on the day you were born into the Kingdom of God.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit could come on people but not in them. What happens when something gets on the inside of us? Let’s think about food for a minute. The food is on the outside of us then we put it in our mouths, chew it and swallow it. It is then on the inside of us. What does that food do? It provides nutrients for our body as long as we are eating the right food and provides power to our body to do its natural work.
The Holy Spirit living on the inside of us does the same. He provides sustenance for our spirit as He helps us grow our faith and intercedes for us. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to do the works that God wants us to do. We cannot do what God wants us to do and be the person God wants us to be without the Holy Spirit working in our lives. It is impossible.
So what exactly do we need the power of the Holy Spirit for? In Ephesians 3:16, it states that we need the Holy Spirit to strengthen us with power so that Jesus may dwell in our hearts through faith. We have to know without a doubt that Jesus is with us at all times and will never leave us. We need to know that God has a good plan for our lives. How do we know that? Through the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling on the inside of us.
Romans 15:13 states that the power of the Holy Spirit fills us with joy and peace as we trust in Him. Do you want to have joy and peace in your life? Remember that the Holy Spirit is dwelling on the inside of you and provides you with the power to have them no matter what the outside circumstances look like.
The last one we will look at is found in Romans 8:26. The Holy Spirit helps us when we don’t know what to pray. Have you ever had a situation come into your life and you don’t know the answer. The power to get the answer is already inside you and He is the Holy Spirit. He will help us to pray when we don’t know what to pray in order to receive our answer. The Holy Spirit helps us to pray the perfect will of God for that situation.
The Bible states that when we are weak, then we are strong. That strength comes from the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us. You have the power to overcome but you and I need to tap into that power far more than we do now. This week remember that if you have asked Jesus in your heart to be your Lord and Saviour, there is now a power inside of you to help you in all situations. You just have to know it and tap into it.
