Hi how are you all today? I am great and have had a stress free week which has been nice. How was your week?
This week I want to blog on the comfort of God and I am looking at it from the perspective of Psalm 25. We will be reading from the Message Bible. I won’t be looking at the whole psalm- just some key verses from it.
The first is verse 1 and it states:
My head is high, God, held high;
I’m looking to you, God;
The psalmist starts this psalm with posture in mind. He is not looking at the ground thinking woe is me but the posture is that his head is held up with his eyes looking to God.
To seek anything from God we must look up. I remember when my boys were little, if they wanted something from me, they would get my attention and then look up at me. The only time they would look down is if they were in trouble. God wants our posture to be one of looking up at daddy God with our head held high.
Verses 4 and 5 are ones we should pray. They state:
4 Show me how you work, God;
School me in your ways.
5 Take me by the hand;
Lead me down the path of truth.
You are my Savior, aren’t you?
Wouldn’t it be great if God could show us how He works. Well He already has- in His Word. If we read the Bible and pray, God will give us revelation and instruction.
I really like verse 5. It is so comforting- take Gods hand and let Him lead me. When we are led by God we will never go astray. It is only when we let go and walk our own paths that wrong ways will be followed.
I love the question- you are my Saviour aren’t you? Sometimes in the midst of difficult circumstances, this is a question we may ask. But the answer is always yes unless we deliberately walk away from God.
Verse 8 should be a verse we need to keep in mind. It states:
8 God is fair and just;
He corrects the misdirected,
Sends them in the right direction.
This is our comfort verse. It doesn’t say God will let us do what we want. No, it states that God is fair and just.
God deals with and loves us uniquely. The way that God directs my life is unique to me. But God is fair. He doesn’t play favourites. He loves us all uniquely because each of us responds to God uniquely. God didn’t create robots and because of that He deals with us the best way for us. God never changes His ways, His laws or what the Bible states. He is fair and just.
I love how God is a personal God. He directs each of us in different ways when we get misdirected. He is always there when we repent and cry out for direction. God is faithful to each of us.
God will always send us in the right direction. Wrong paths mean we are not listening to God. As stated before God leads us in the path of truth.
The last verse we will look at is verse 20 and it states:
20 Keep watch over me and keep me out of trouble;
Don’t let me down when I run to you.
This is a good verse to pray back to God.
God, please keep watch over me and keep me out of trouble.
Fear has no place in this verse only a deep trust in God. It reminds me a bit of a verse of the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 where it states: lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil.
When we stay close to God and let Him lead us then this is the result- we can have peace because God is with us.
The next part of that verse states don’t let me down when I run to you. God will never let us down but sometimes when we sin we can feel like this. As long as we repent and run to God, He will never let us down. He will never let us down when we run away from Him either but it is hard to feel comfort when we are going the opposite direction.
I pray this blog will bring comfort to your life. God is always with us, always leading us and is always there for us. Run to Him- He is waiting for you.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
