What unity looks like

Hi how are you all? I am well. The weather here today is raining and our summer is predicted to be wet again. I like rain but too much means flooding and heartache for people which I don’t like. On top of that beach weather is limited. Oh well! How is it at your home?

This weekend I had the privilege to attend the Omega Writers conference which is a Christian writers conference. It was my first one so was a little scary – okay a lot. But I worked through my anxiety and went and I was really glad I did.

Not only did I pick up lots of information regarding writing and then marketing but I also made some friends, which was lovely.

However as I was reflecting on my last day of conference, I realised that this conference embodied what unity means in the body of Christ.

Even though we all had writing in common, nobody asked what Church you were from and if it came up in conversation, nobody cared. There was no comments regarding “well I don’t believe in Holy Spirit baptism” or any other thing. It was that we were all there because we shared a love of writing and we all love and serve Jesus.

Even when we had singing, nobody cared if you raised your hands in worship or not. It was such a freeing conference. There were also no cliques. Everyone was there to encourage each other and help each other through.

Psalm 133 in the NIV Bible states:

Psalm 133

A song of ascents. Of David.

¹ How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!² It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
³ It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

This is what conference was like and it is what each and every church service should be like. We are there to love Jesus and love others. We are not there to have cliques or to gossip about others. We shouldn’t care what others are wearing – just that they are there.

The blessing of God was bestowed on conference when needs were met that weren’t even announced. People were prayed for and loved and words from God and wisdom flowed freely.

This is what I want to experience all the time and I know you all do too.

So let’s be the catalyst for change where needed and model the behaviour of loving Jesus and loving others wherever we go. Then God will pour out abundant blessings on all our church meetings and on us.

This is how we continue to live the life God intended for all of us.
