What are you eating?

June 12, 2022

Hi how are you all? Well winter has again officially arrived. It is so cold for June in my country. In the city where I work, a day last week was the coldest minimum for June since 1904. What a record! I don’t think it’s going to heat up more anytime soon.

This week you will be blessed with two blog posts as I didn’t write one last week. I have titled this one What are you eating? I am not talking about physical food but spiritual and food for the soul.

It is good to eat nourishing food for our bodies as we need nutrients, protein, carbs etc to keep going strong. God expects this of us as well. The reason is not to deprive us but to energise us to ensure we can fulfill the call of God on our lives.

But like we feed our physical 3 to 5 times a day, how often do we feed our spirit and soul? Romans 12:2 gives us the food for our soul (our mind, will and emotions). It states in the Message Bible:

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

The verse says fix our attention on God. In other words, feed our soul what is necessary to ensure this happens. We need our minds renewed to the Word of God. How do we do that? It is not by just going to church on Sunday for a snack but reading the Word of God daily. Just like physical food nourishes the body daily so does the Word of God transform our minds daily.

Jeremiah 15:16 states:

When your words showed up, I ate them – swallowed them whole. What a feast! What delight I took in being yours, O God, God-of-the-Angel-Armies!

This verse tells us that when we eat the Word of God by reading it ( not physically eating the Bible), it becomes a feast. A feast is an abundance of foods with different tastes and textures. Sometimes the Word of God is sweet for us and easy to eat. These are the verses we love. But sometimes, the verses are sour to us. We don’t like them but they are good for us. This is like lemon when we have a cold. It is bitter but good for our healing.

In the book of Ezekiel, chapter 3, God tells Ezekiel to literally eat the scroll. This is what we need to do with Gods Word but not physically. The Word of God needs to get inside us so when we need it, it comes straight back out of our mouths. The Word of God cannot come out of your mouth if you haven’t put it in in the first place.

Jesus defeated Satan with the Word of God. If Jesus had to get the Word inside of Him, so do we.

So this week, find a Bible reading plan and stick to it. I read the Word for Today and She reads truth to help me keep in the habit of daily Bible reading.

I promise if you will do this diligently for a period of time, you will see your life begin to change. Gods Word does not return to Him without accomplishing the work in yours and my life.

Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you

Karen
