Seasons of change

September 18, 2015

As I write this, I am contemplating changes in my own life. You see tomorrow is my youngest son’s wedding day. He is the first of my children to get married. The changes are all good but I know things will change. Even though he has been out of home a few years, I am the one he still tells his secrets too! All that will change. Anothe change is that now I will be mummy in law and what does that mean?? I thank God that He is there to give me wisdom and guidance. God knows we will all experience change and that is why the scripture in Ecclesiastes 3 is so important.

These first 8 verses talk about different seasons in our life. The first verse talks about the fact that there is a season for everything and a time for every activity under heaven. The next 7 verses talks about what those seasons can look like. I have been through a lot of seasons in my own life. If you are struggling with things, it is important to pray and ask God what season you are in. For example, the verses say that there is a time to plant and a time to harvest. There are seasons in our lives where we don’t seem to be getting anywhere – we are not seeing anything fruitful happen. So maybe in those times, it is a time to plant. What do we need to plant?  Maybe the Word of God deeper into our heart, it may be love, joy, peace, patience in our lives, it may be a resting time to wait on God (in Isaiah) or it may be a time to take stock and see how your “fields” are going.

For me, contemplating my son’s wedding, it is a time to let go and allow him to be planted in his new relationship with his wife. To allow him to become the protector, guider and leader of his new family unit. Not that he will forget me, but that he will grow more in all that I have sowed into his life. After that planting comes a harvest- a knowing that rich relationships with my new daughter in law and eventually grandchildren will come into my life and enrich it.

You see, every time, we go through a season, we should expect the end result to always be good and not bad. Even in the season when we sometimes die to things in our life that are not good, or we lose someone, good always comes out of it. We grow stronger, more compassionate and more loving to others.

Every season that we go through is a time of learning and getting better. It is meant for our good and not for our destruction. Even our kids as they grow up, go through seasons of change and it makes them stronger and they do new things.

So today, if you are in a season of change, seek God and know that it will get better. Learn from it and grow in it. Your life will never be the same!
