Hi how are you today? I am well and have had a good week. It was my husband’s birthday week and we had a small party for him yesterday. So that was fun! How was your week?
This week I want to look at the words no sorrow. We know that Jesus will not remove sorrow from us until we get to heaven. So in what context does God tell us to have no sorrow. It is actually when God blesses us.
The verse is found in Proverbs 10:22 and in the New King James Bible it states:
The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.
Who adds no sorrow? God because it is His blessing.
In Matthew 7:11 in the New King James Bible , it states:
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
So this means that Gods blessings are always good. So how do we get a blessing from God that brings sorrow.
We need to look at the story of the unjust judge in Luke 18: 1 to 8 in the Message Bible.
18 1-3 Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit. He said, “There was once a judge in some city who never gave God a thought and cared nothing for people. A widow in that city kept after him: ‘My rights are being violated. Protect me!’
4-5 “He never gave her the time of day. But after this went on and on he said to himself, ‘I care nothing what God thinks, even less what people think. But because this widow won’t quit badgering me, I’d better do something and see that she gets justice—otherwise I’m going to end up beaten black-and-blue by her pounding.’”
6-8 Then the Master said, “Do you hear what that judge, corrupt as he is, is saying? So what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen people, who continue to cry out for help? Won’t he stick up for them? I assure you, he will. He will not drag his feet. But how much of that kind of persistent faith will the Son of Man find on the earth when he returns?”
This story is generally looked at in the context of pray and don’t quit. But I want us to imagine that what this lady was asking for was not good for her. Would the unjust judge have given it to her because she was so persistent? I believe he would have because it was not so much about the request as to why she received, it was because the unjust judge was literally annoyed by her.
This means that if we pray persistently for something and it is not good for us or even more importantly not Gods timing to give it to us, we may receive it and not be ready for it.
Most times the things we are asking for especially in relation to calling, ministry, career, marriage etc., we are not equipped within ourselves to handle. God knows exactly the right time to answer our prayers. Let’s look at an example:
My calling was only revealed to me in my fifties. What if God had revealed my calling earlier? Was my character built for it? Maybe not, I still carried too much pride. Did circumstances before this in my life allow me to carry the weight of the calling? Maybe not as I was busy with elderly parents, children and paid work. You see, if God had revealed it too early, I probably would have had a lot of sorrow and frustration attached to it.
God calls some people as children, teenagers or even young adults and that may be fine for them.
God does not want His blessings over our lives to bring us sorrow. We need to wait for God to answer in His time.
So this week, take stock of what you are praying for. God desires to bless you abundantly but sometimes the pieces of the jigsaw need to be put in place first. Just wait and allow God to mould you and shape you so that when those abundant blessings come, you will be ready.
Bless you and keep living the life God intended.
