In writing this blog this week, I didn’t receive any special message so I just thought I would blog on being thankful. You see, most of us have much to be thankful for – our freedom, our family, our freedom to worship God, our friends, employment, health etc. This list can go on and on. Oftentimes, however, we just continue to walk through day by day, never noticing or doing a personal stocktake of all that God has done for us.
When we read through Psalms in the Bible, it seems that the ones King David wrote were full of thankfulness and full of praise to God for everything, even in those hard places where the way out didn’t seem so clear. Sometimes, we need to thank God and praise Him right out of those hard times. Those times when stuff happens and life generally is a little or a lot overwhelming. In these times, we forget to praise God- most of the time we forget that He is walking close by us – ever ready to answer our plea.
In the Bible, King Jehoshaphat is one of my favourite kings. In one story, an enemy was coming against him and his whole entire country (and we think we have issues). I love theking’ response. He took the ginormous problem to God and asked Him about it. God told Him that the battle was not his, but God’s. If you are on God’s team the same applies to you. So the King went to battle but the King did a weird thing. Instead of sending the best archers and swordsmen out, he sent the singers and musicians. God caused the enemy to turn on themselves and King Jehoshaphat, with God, won the battle. The amazing thing was not a spear or sword was used to win the battle, only praise and worship.
This week, remember to take the time to thank and praise God.He has done so much for each one of us. If you don’t know God and would like to, pray and tell God you believe in Him and what His son Jesus did for you on the cross and then ask for forgiveness. If you did this, comment on this post.
