Steps of faith (part 2)

Hi how are you all? I hope you have had a great week. This week we have had a bit of rain and parts of my country are flooded. It is also getting a tiny bit cooler as we go into autumn.

This week I want to continue our journey of looking at the steps of faith: how to grow our faith. Last week we looked at Step 1 and it was all about hearing the voice of God- through reading the Bible or hearing the Holy Spirit talk to us. Abram heard Gods voice and was obedient to leave his country and start the journey with God.

So let’s look at Step2. It is found in Genesis 13. In this chapter Abram and Lot’s families separate as Abram was never meant to take Lot on the journey with him. Then in verse 14 to 17, God speaks to Abram again. This time it is Abram’s seeing that needs to change. The Lord said:

Lift your eyes now and look….for all the land you see I give to you and your descendants…I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth…

There is the promise again but this time God wanted him to see it in the spiritual- because obviously it wasn’t fulfilled yet in the natural. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance- the seeing- of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We have to see the promises of God in the spiritual world before we ever see them in the natural. But you say, this is so hard. Yes it can be, but do you know we operate like this every day. We see our pay check the day before payday before we actually receive it. Sometimes we have the money spent before we receive our pay in the natural. We plan for an overseas holiday and believe we are going before we ever get to the place.

So why do we trust in those things easier than we trust in the Word of God. Because we have experience that those things work.

So let’s set an exercise for us to do. Let’s believe God for something small this week. It could be $5 for a coffee, a parking space at your nearest shopping centre, time to do all you need to do, healing for a headache, favour in your workplace, the item of clothing you like to go on sale.

These are just some examples and there are many more. You pick one. Make sure though that what you pick lines up with the Word of God. We can’t ask God to help us rob a bank or lie to get a favour from someone. That is sin. Let me know what you are believing for and we will believe together.

I can’t wait to hear what happens in your week. Until next time keep living the life God intended for you.

Bless you heaps

Karen
