Ignorance is not bliss

Hi how are you today? I am well and currently on a plane heading for a holiday. The weather in my country is warming up but where I am holidaying will be on the hot side. Hope you are all well.

There is a saying around and maybe you have heard it – ignorance is bliss. But does that apply to Christianity. Let’s see what the Bible says.

I was reading my Bible the other day and a story captured my attention. It was the story in 1 Samuel 15 involving Jonathan and his armour bearer. The rest of the army was waiting for the command to go but Jonathan and his armour bearer decided to trust God. They went down to the enemy’s camp and started defeating them, then the rest of the army came. That was a good result.

But what Jonathan and his armour bearer didn’t know was that King Saul had called a fast to sundown. They came across a lot of honey in the forest and ate it. One of the army men told him what the King had said.

Did Jonathan go to the King and repent for what he had done? No he didn’t. This could have been for many reasons. They are: Jonathan was the Kings son and maybe he thought he could get away with it or maybe he thought it was a silly command and God would rebuke the King and not him. After all, he was the one who stepped out to fight the battle and won.

BUT ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the commands of God. Even though Saul was Jonathan’s dad, on the battle field Saul was Jonathan’s leader. God put Saul in as King and as such he should be obeyed unless he was violating one of Gods commandments – which he wasn’t.

As a consequence, when Saul tried to seek God as to the next stage of battle, God was silent. Why? Because there was sin in the camp.

God won’t answer where there is unrepented sin even if you don’t know Gods laws. Ignorance is not bliss as a Christian. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew to seek the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you. Things will only be added as we operate under Gods law.

This week seek God and repent of any ignorant and hidden sin. Then see the miracles in your life happen. God cannot go back on His Word.

Bless you heaps and keep living the life a God intended for you.
