I write this post a few years ago but it seems relevant now. Please reread.
Everywhere we turn, we hear – fear this person, fear this sickness or fear this or fear that. That is not the way that God intends us to live. One of the scriptures I stand on is that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind”.
I love this scripture as it pertains to our whole life. We need the power of God and the power of the Word of God working in our lives each and every day. We need the love of God working in our lives because the Bible says that perfect love casts out all fear. We need a sound mind. The Bible says we have the mind of Christ which means we can think like Jesus did. These elements enable us to live an abundant life. But how do we walk it out?
I believe it comes down to the question – who do we trust. The Word of God or the word of the media or whatever else is “talking” to us. Those voices in our head that talk to us continually need to be silenced by the truth outlined in the Bible. We are more than conquerors and can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us.
I remember a story about Jesus where He could have given in to fear. He just spoke out a message in Church and it so enraged the crowd that they wanted to throw Him off a cliff. But what did Jesus do? He turned around and walked away. How could He do this? He had a Spirit of power, love and a sound mind. We can do the same.
Bless you all.
I remember walking through the city early one morning on my way to work. A group of young men walked towards me. They probably meant no harm but I felt the spirit of fear start to rise in me. I started repeating a verse in the Bible that says “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world”. As I continued to walk towards these guys, the group parted and I walked straight through the middle. I started thanking God because it was His word that worked amazingly.
I know it is hard to walk through our lives with no fear around us. It is one area in which I have struggled. Let us set a challenge together – to encourage each other to live our lives with a banner over us stating ‘no fear here’.
This week, trust God, speak His Word and watch things change. If they don’t change the way you like, keep pressing in and eventually your breakthrough will come.
