Hi how are you all? I apologise for not writing in the last month but my mum has been really sick and we have had to put her in care. So now I am back to normal. I was going to continue with our theme of building our house – restoration. But God had a different idea.
As I was reading through the book of Genesis, God revealed to me that Joseph had three coats and I feel to blog on the significance of each coat. I will do a teaching on each.
The first one is found in Genesis 37:3. Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob and the first son of Rachel. Jacob loved Joseph the most as he was the son of Rachel who he loved and because he was born in his old age. Therefore, Jacob made Joseph a coat of many colours. Joseph would have stood out with his bright coat on.
After that, Joseph had two dreams. The first contained visions of his brothers bowing down to him and the second was that the sun, moon and stars would bow to him. Instead of keeping the dreams to himself, he spoke them out. That caused his brothers to be very upset with him even to the extent that they eventually sold Joseph to the slave traders.
So what does this coat represent? I believe it represents pride. Joseph may have been strutting around with his coat on and when he received the dreams, pride would have been there. If humility had ruled in his life, he would have prayed and asked God for direction.
Proverbs 16:18 states that pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall. We can see this played out in Joseph’s life. His brothers sold him to slave traders where Joseph’s pride would have been dealt a harsh blow. It was a lesson he had to learn. The coat was taken off him by his brothers and dipped in the blood of a goat to make it look like Joseph was killed (Genesis 37:31). It is only the blood of Jesus that can remove pride off our lives.
We need to let God deal with any pride that we have in our lives. We need to repent of it because God can’t work in a prideful heart. We need to remind ourselves that everything we are and everything we have is because of God and Him sending Jesus.
So this week, let’s remove our coat of pride, repent of it and get it far from us. God has work for us to do and He needs us to rely on Him and be obedient and not rely on ourselves.
Have a great week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you heaps
Karen
