Hi how are you all? I pray you are having a great week. One of my favourite things to do is organising. I love going through my things and seeing what I’m storing that I don’t need anymore. It’s not that I throw the old out and buy something new, although I do it with clothes – it is just that I discard the unwanted and keep the wanted. Too many of us though throw out the old and get new. Why do we do that? Is it because the old reminds us of bad memories or we want to keep up with the latest trends.
Jesus has something to say about this in Matthew 13:52. It states that “Then He added, Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storehouse new gems of truth as well as old”. When it comes to spiritual matters, Jesus does not want us to throw away the old teachings in favour of the new. Jesus wants us to embrace the new revelation whilst staying with the old.
For example, when a homeowner decorates the room, generally they don’t pull up the floors and pull down the walls and ceiling. They build on the foundation that is already there. The things we have learnt in God are meant to be built on and not thrown away.
Even Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 that He did not come to abolish the law (the old) but to fulfill it. He then goes on to say that not one detail of God’s law will disappear until it’s purposes are fulfilled. Jesus doesn’t want us to disregard the old but to learn from it.
Too often we don’t read the Old Testament because we think it doesn’t apply to us. I love reading the stories in the Old Testament as they are natural stories with spiritual principles. I can see how David trusted in God so much that he slew the giant with a stone and a sling. I can stand tall with Esther when she received the revelation that she was born for such a time as this. I can see the hand of God as He nurtured the Israelites through the desert and know that He will do the same for me.
It is time for us to go back to the old and build onto it. Nothing in the Bible is not relevant anymore – it is all relevant. Jesus still heals and still forgives. God has given us a heavenly language to communicate with Him that not even the devil can understand. Jesus’ blood still wipes away our sins and protects us though life, as long as we apply it.
We still have to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and love our neighbour as ourself. Tithing is still in and still works. There are many more examples of the old that we need to retain as well as receiving new revelation.
This week ask God to show you where you have left the old behind. Pick it up again and start building on it with new revelation from God. Your life will never be the same and will truly be enriched.
Have an amazing week and keep living the life God intended for you.
Bless you heaps
Karen
